In a grand confluence of faith, tradition and community spirit, the Sri Balamurugan Devasthanam Trust (Sri Karthikswamy Mandir) in Hatkeshwar–Khokhra is all set to celebrate its Diamond Jubilee with the sacred observance of the Panguni Uthiram Festival on April 1, one of the most revered occasions dedicated to Lord Murugan.
Marking six decades of unwavering devotion, the temple will host a day-long celebration of spiritually uplifting events, drawing devotees from across Ahmedabad and beyond.
SIGNIFICANCE OF PANGUNI UTHIRAM
Panguni Uthiram, observed during the Tamil month of Panguni (March–April), is considered highly auspicious as it commemorates the divine celestial marriages of deities including Lord Murugan with Deivanai, as well as Lord Shiva–Parvati and Lord Rama–Sita.
The festival holds special importance in Murugan temples, where devotees undertake kavadi offerings and prayers for fulfilment of vows, prosperity and harmonious family life. It symbolises the union of divine energies and reinforces the ideals of devotion, sacrifice and marital harmony.
DAY OF DIVINE FESTIVITIES
7:00 AM – KAVADI PROCESSION
The celebrations will commence at dawn with a vibrant Kavadi procession, where devotees, carrying ornately decorated kavadis, will walk in devotion, fulfilling vows and seeking the blessings of Lord Murugan—an age-old ritual deeply rooted in Tamil spiritual tradition.
11:00 AM – ANNADHANAM (COMMUNITY FEAST)
A grand annadhanam will be organised, embodying the sacred principle of ‘service to humanity is service to divinity’, as thousands partake in the blessed meal.
9:00 PM – GRAND RATH YATRA
The highlight of the Diamond Jubilee will be the majestic night procession of Sri Balaganapathy and Sri Balamurugan, seated on a flower-bedecked rath, illuminating the streets with devotional music and spiritual splendour.
