Dr Agarwals Eye Hospital, a leader in eye care in the country with a growing global presence, organised Reticon 2025, a premier scientific meeting dedicated to advancements in retina care here on Sunday, with the theme of “Advancements in Retina”, bringing together over 1,500 vitreoretinal specialists, postgraduates, and general ophthalmologists from India and abroad.

  • Event features over 30 distinguished speakers, including international experts, providing insights into the latest advancements in vitreoretinal care
  • A hands-on Wet Lab course offers participants practical experience with cutting-edge techniques like Glued IOL, SFT, and intravitreal injections
  • Diseases of the retina have historically received low priority in blindness prevention programs across developing nations, despite the fact that they account for 4.7% of all cases of blindness in India, a figure that is expected to rise in the coming years: Dr. Manoj Khatri, Clinical Lead and Head – Department of Vitreo-Retina, Dr Agarwals Eye Hospital

Reticon 2025 was inaugurated by Dr. Kalanidhi Veeraswamy, Member of Parliament, Chennai North and guest of honor Dr. Mohan Rajan, Vice President, All India Ophthalmological Society in the presence of Prof. Dr. Amar Agarwal, Chairman of Dr Agarwals Eye Hospital, and Dr. Ashvin Agarwal, Chief Clinical Officer.

The annual event, stepping into its 15th year, aimed at disseminating the latest knowledge on diagnosing and managing vitreoretinal disorders, offering updates on cutting-edge techniques and technologies in this rapidly evolving field. It featured over 30 distinguished speakers, including both national and international experts, who led a series of six focused scientific sessions covering key topics in vitreoretinal care.

International faculty included Dr. Aniruddha Agarwal, Dr. Jesse Sengillo, and Dr. Kelvin Teo. Reticon 2025 also hosted the exciting Retina Premier League where Teams showcased the most challenging cases, and the best team was awarded. Debates on critical topics related to treatments and surgeries were also a part of the event. Hands-on Wet Lab courses were also conducted, offering practical training on Glued IOL, SFT (Scleral Fixated Techniques), and Intravitreal Injections, giving participants a valuable opportunity to enhance their surgical skills.

In his comments, Prof. Dr. Amar Agarwal, Chairman, Dr Agarwals Eye Hospital said, “We are proud to have been organising Reticon with such dedication over the years, creating a platform that not only updates specialists on the latest advancements in vitreoretinal care but also puts India’s prowess in eye care firmly on the global map. Reticon 2025 offers vitreoretinal specialists, fellows, postgraduate students, and general ophthalmologists a unique opportunity to explore cutting-edge techniques, innovative surgical approaches, and evolving treatment options, all aimed at delivering better outcomes for patients worldwide. The knowledge shared at Reticon not only helps in refining surgical skills and clinical practice but also inspires a spirit of innovation and excellence among the next generation of ophthalmologists. We believe that through such continuous learning, we can collectively raise the standards of retina care both nationally and internationally.”

Talking about the benefits of the event, Dr. Ashvin Agarwal, Chief Clinical Officer, Dr Agarwals Eye Hospital said, “The theme of Reticon 2025, ‘Advancements in Retina’ reflects the tremendous progress being made in diagnosing and treating vitreoretinal diseases. This year’s sessions covered a broad and crucial spectrum – from emerging trends in medical retina and innovative approaches to pediatric uveitis, to surgical management of inherited retinal dystrophies, and the exciting future of AI in disease management. Our hands-on Wet Lab courses, focusing on techniques like Glued IOL, SFT, and intravitreal injections, provided participants with invaluable practical experience. With an outstanding lineup of over 30 expert speakers from India and abroad, Reticon proved to be a rich learning platform. Events like these are vital for young doctors, undergraduates, and postgraduate students, giving them early exposure to the latest knowledge, techniques, and global perspectives that will shape the future of eye care.”

In his comments, Dr. Manoj Khatri, Clinical Lead and Head – Department of Vitreo-Retina, Dr Agarwals Eye Hospital said, “Diseases of the retina have historically received low priority in blindness prevention programs across developing nations, despite the fact that they account for 4.7% of all cases of blindness in India, a figure that is expected to rise in the coming years. Vitreoretinal diseases, which affect the delicate structures of the vitreous and retina, can cause significant and irreversible vision loss if not identified and managed in time. Conditions like retinal detachment, diabetic retinopathy, macular holes, and vitreous hemorrhage highlight the urgent need for specialised care. At events like Reticon, the global exchange of views, experiences, and best practices becomes critically important. By learning from international advancements and sharing insights across borders, we can transform the landscape of eye care in India and ensure that more patients benefit from early diagnosis, innovative treatments, and better clinical outcomes.”

The organising committee for Reticon 2025 comprised Dr. Ashvin Agarwal, the Program Director. The committee included Dr. Parveen Sen, Dr. Padma Preetha N, and Dr. Triveni V of Dr Agarwals Eye Hospital.

Addressing reporters Dr. Mohan Rajan, Vice President, All India Ophthalmological Society said out of the 35,000 trained Retino surgeons over 700 from across the country attended the RETICON 2025.
