The redevelopment of Thrissur Railway Station gathered fresh momentum on Sunday as Union Minister of State for Petroleum & Natural Gas and Tourism Suresh Gopi chaired a high-level review meeting, directing stakeholders to accelerate execution while ensuring minimal inconvenience to passengers during the station’s transformation.
Held at the Collectorate Conference Hall in Thrissur, the meeting brought together senior Railway officials, the district administration, the Thrissur Corporation, police authorities and public representatives to assess progress and strengthen inter-agency coordination for one of Kerala’s key railway infrastructure projects.

Detailed discussions focused on the phased implementation of the redevelopment plan, including the relocation of offices, shifting of station facilities, passenger convenience measures, traffic management and other operational arrangements essential for smooth execution.
The meeting underscored the need for close coordination among all stakeholders to ensure uninterrupted passenger services while keeping the project on schedule.
Railway officials also deliberated on measures to further strengthen the station’s multi-modal connectivity, enabling seamless integration with road transport and improving overall urban mobility.
The Construction Organisation, Ernakulam, informed the meeting that the redevelopment is progressing in carefully planned phases with the objective of delivering world-class passenger amenities, enhanced accessibility and modern station infrastructure.
Officials reiterated that the ambitious redevelopment project is targeted for completion by 2028.
Following the review meeting, Suresh Gopi inspected the ongoing construction works at Thrissur Railway Station, visited proposed relocation sites and reviewed the pace of execution on the ground. He also interacted with engineers and construction personnel engaged in the project.
