SHIVPURI, JULY 5
Calling it a defining milestone in India’s strategic march towards defence self-reliance, Jeet Adani, Director of Adani Defence & Aerospace, on Sunday unveiled an ambitious blueprint that goes far beyond manufacturing missiles—one that seeks to create a fully integrated defence ecosystem capable of producing everything from critical energetic materials to mission-ready missile systems under one roof.
Addressing the groundbreaking ceremony of South Asia’s largest private-sector missile ecosystem in Shivpuri, Jeet Adani described the ₹2,500-crore project as a historic first outside the public sector that would fundamentally reshape India’s defence manufacturing architecture.
“We have gathered here today for a landmark occasion—laying the foundation of South Asia’s largest private-sector missile ecosystem. This facility will bring raw materials and mission-ready missiles under one roof—a historic first outside the public sector.”
He said the project would establish a sovereign capability that would significantly strengthen India’s strategic preparedness while placing Madhya Pradesh at the heart of the country’s defence industrial expansion.
“We are deeply honoured to bring this sovereign capability to Madhya Pradesh.”
Praising the state’s rapid industrial transformation, Jeet Adani credited the leadership of Chief Minister Mohan Yadav, the support of Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia, and the government’s sustained emphasis on infrastructure, industry and employment.
Highlighting the Adani Group’s long-term commitment to the state, he recalled that Chairman Gautam Adani had announced investments worth ₹1.10 lakh crore during the Global Investors Summit in Bhopal last year across hydro pumped storage, cement, mining, smart meters and thermal energy.
“This will create 1,20,000 jobs by 2030 and every groundbreaking we undertake is a step towards delivering on that exact commitment.”
Jeet Adani said the Group had already invested over ₹4,000 crore in its Ametha and Kymor cement plants in Katni district, while Adani Power currently supplies 1,200 MW to Madhya Pradesh and is preparing to add another 5,600 MW. He also highlighted the commissioning of wind energy projects in Lahori, Dhar, Ratlam and Ujjain, with a new cement plant in Ujjain also on the anvil.
Referring to the recently announced ₹1,060-crore Guna cement project, he said it represented the largest investment in the district’s history.
“These investments are not merely in plants and factories but in the people and the future of Madhya Pradesh.”
Positioning the defence venture within the broader national vision of Aatmanirbhar Bharat, Jeet Adani said the Group is working closely with the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) and the Armed Forces to reduce India’s dependence on imported defence systems.
“We are promoting indigenisation, working closely with the DRDO and the Armed Forces to systematically reverse India’s dependency on imports.”
He pointed to the company’s defence manufacturing facility in Gwalior as evidence of that commitment.
“Gwalior gave Madhya Pradesh its first taste of serious defence manufacturing. Today, that complex manufactures our entire portfolio of Light Machine Guns, Assault Rifles and Carbines. Our Light Machine Guns programme alone has already delivered 2,000 units to the Armed Forces—11 months ahead of schedule.”
Describing Shivpuri as the next transformational phase, Jeet Adani said the upcoming complex would manufacture medium- and long-range missile systems while creating India’s first integrated private-sector ecosystem for critical missile inputs.
“Shivpuri is the next giant leap in that journey as we bring a full-range, integrated missile ecosystem to manufacture medium to long-range missile systems, replacing foreign dependency with domestic power.”
He underlined that the project extends far beyond missile assembly by establishing domestic production of critical materials essential for advanced weapon systems.
“We are going deeper than just assembly. We are establishing composite propellant manufacturing as well as TNT and explosive-grade material production.”
Over the next three years, the company will invest ₹2,500 crore to build the advanced manufacturing complex, creating around 5,000 direct and indirect employment opportunities while integrating more than 50 MSMEs into a specialised defence supply chain.
“Together, Gwalior and Shivpuri will stand as twin engines of defence innovation in Madhya Pradesh. They will ensure that the advanced systems protecting our skies are proudly built by Indian hands, on Indian soil.”
The project is expected to become one of the most significant milestones in India’s private-sector defence manufacturing journey, strengthening indigenous missile production, deepening strategic self-reliance and accelerating the country’s emergence as a globally competitive defence manufacturing hub.
