AHMEDABAD, AUG 21

What happens when the first beat of a damru meets the first glimpse of a cinematic dream? In Ahmedabad today, the answer reverberated through the launch of ‘Damru Baje’, the first promotional song of the upcoming Gujarati film Damru—a musical invocation of Mahadev unveiled in the spiritually charged month of Shravan.

The song launch was more than a conventional promotional event. It was the makers’ first public musical offering to audiences—and, symbolically, a call for Mahadev’s blessings before the film begins its journey towards the theatres.

With the damru traditionally associated with Shiva’s cosmic rhythm, the title song seeks to transform that spiritual symbolism into a cinematic celebration. The makers are positioning Damru as a wholesome family entertainer blending comedy, suspense, emotion and a social message, with an appeal intended to cut across generations.

The film is slated for theatrical release on October 23, 2026.

From temple bells to camera flashes

The day began on a spiritual note, with the Damru team seeking divine blessings at a temple before moving into the promotional celebrations in Ahmedabad.

The choice of Shravan for unveiling the first promotional song adds another layer of significance to the launch. Rather than introducing the film through a conventional commercial number, the makers have chosen Mahadev and his damru as the first musical face of Damru.

And that first beat is intended to do more than merely announce a film—it seeks to establish its mood.

The promotional song has been composed by Parth Bharat Thakkar, with voices from acclaimed singers Bhoomi Trivedi and Jaysinh Gadhavi. Prince Gupta has directed and choreographed the song, with Suraj Kurade behind its cinematography.

The film’s principal cinematography is by Dhruv Panchal, while Darshan Shah of Treehouse Studio has composed the original soundtrack and background score.

Can this ‘Damru’ beat the ₹100-crore drum?

The Gujarati film industry has been witnessing a remarkable surge, with content-driven films expanding the horizons of the regional box office. Against this backdrop, Damru is arriving with an ambition that is anything but modest.

Asked whether Damru has the story, scale and audience connect to break the ₹100-crore barrier and establish a new benchmark for Gujarati cinema, producer Sanjay Soni did not shy away from setting his sights high.

“We are not only catering to the Gujarati audience but also the national and global ones as the medium of cinema has no language barrier now. We are confident that ‘Damru’ will become the next ₹100-crore Gujarati blockbuster with the support of film puffs under the Sun.”

That is a declaration of intent from a production team that sees the film not merely as another Gujarati release, but as a property capable of travelling beyond linguistic boundaries.

Why ‘Damru’? the director beats out the answer

Why Damru? What does the title mean to the story?

Director Hardik Parikh offered a straightforward yet revealing answer, underlining the film’s broad entertainment quotient.

“It is a wholesome family movie tickling the bones of all age groups with comedy laced with adequate mix of all for an entertainer. This is our first promotional song during the holy month of Shravan.”

The statement captures the makers’ attempt to balance devotion with entertainment, comedy with suspense and family values with contemporary cinematic treatment.

And that may be the film’s larger proposition: can a title rooted in one of India’s most recognisable spiritual symbols become the gateway to an entertainer that speaks to an entire family?

A musical powerhouse behind the first beat

The promotional song brings together a strong musical and visual team.

Bhoomi Trivedi, one of Gujarat’s prominent playback voices, and Jaysinh Gadhavi lend their vocals to the track, while Parth Bharat Thakkar handles the music.

The song’s visual treatment is entrusted to Prince Gupta, who also choreographs it, with Suraj Kurade capturing the spectacle.

The combination is designed to give Damru Baje both devotional resonance and commercial energy—a song that can work as a spiritual invocation while functioning as the film’s first major promotional hook.

An ensemble ready to make some noise

Damru brings together an expansive ensemble of Gujarati performers, including Sanjay Goradia, Nakshraaj, Maulik Chauhan, Nirav Vaidya, Nirali Oza, Saurabh Rajyaguru, Makrand Shukla, Hemang Dave, Sanjay Galsar, Bhargav Parmar, Bhoomi Trivedi and Prince Gupta, among others.

Produced by Ramesh Prajapati, Krupa Soni and Sanjay Soni under Gujotsav Production and Vraj Films, the film is directed by Hardik J. Pareekh and written by Rushikesh Thakkar and Nirav Joshi.

The film’s larger cast and crew also include Vishal Vaishya, Nischay Rana, Nishithkumar Bhrambhatt, Annapurna Shukla, Arati Soni and Satish Bhatt.

From Shravan’s blessings to October’s box-office test

The makers have deliberately chosen the first promotional song to establish Damru’s spiritual identity before the film enters its wider promotional campaign.

The symbolism is hard to miss.

The damru represents rhythm. Mahadev represents cosmic energy. Cinema represents storytelling.

The Ahmedabad launch brings all three together.

Whether that first beat eventually grows into the ₹100-crore blockbuster that producer Sanjay Soni envisions will ultimately be decided by audiences. But with Damru Baje, the makers have ensured that their cinematic journey begins not with a whisper, but with a beat intended to reverberate from Shravan to the theatres this October.

And as the damru beats, the question for Gujarati cinema becomes irresistible:

Will this divine rhythm become the soundtrack to its next blockbuster milestone?
