A new chapter in specialised women’s and children’s healthcare has opened in Chennai with the launch of Maa Kauvery, a 120-bed dedicated hospital designed to bring maternity, fertility, newborn, paediatric and women’s wellness services under one roof. In a move aimed at strengthening access to round-the-clock, specialised care, the facility at Kauvery Hospital–Radial Road combines advanced critical-care infrastructure with comprehensive services spanning pregnancy, childbirth, neonatal emergencies, childhood illnesses and women’s health across the life cycle.

Dr K.G. Arunraj, Minister for Health, Medical Education and Family Welfare, Government of Tamil Nadu, inaugurated the facility in the presence of Dr S Chandrakumar, Founder & Executive Chairman; Dr Manivannan Selvaraj, Founder & Managing Director; Dr Aravindan Selvaraj, Co-Founder & Executive Director; and Dr D Senguttuvan, Co-Founder & Executive Director, Kauvery Group of Hospitals, Mr Sharath Kumar, Tamil Nadu Minister for Human Resources and Mrs Kamatchi, Pallavaram MLA here on Tuesday.

  • From fertility to safe childbirth, care follows the mother: IUI, IVF, fetal medicine, high-risk pregnancy management and advanced gynaecological surgery form a connected maternal-care pathway.
  • Tiny lives, advanced protection: A Level 3 NICU provides intensive support for critically ill and extremely premature newborns, including babies born before 30 weeks or weighing below 1.5 kg.
  • When every minute matters for a child: A PICU and 24/7 paediatric emergency services strengthen the hospital’s response to critically ill and high-risk children.
  • Women’s healthcare does not end with motherhood: Services span adolescent health, menstrual health, PCOS, reproductive health, fertility, menopause, breast health and gynaecologic oncology.
  • Trichy experience comes to Chennai: Kauvery brings its integrated Maa Kauvery model from its 200-bed Trichy facility to Chennai, with round-the-clock specialist care.

One specialised destination from pregnancy to childhood

Maa Kauvery brings together maternity care, obstetrics and gynaecology, fertility services, fetal medicine, neonatology, paediatrics and paediatric critical care, creating an integrated healthcare pathway for women and children.

The facility will provide 24/7 maternity services, including specialised management of normal and high-risk pregnancies. Dedicated clinical teams will support women throughout pregnancy, labour and childbirth, backed by antenatal, delivery and postnatal care.

Dedicated birthing facilities are designed to ensure continuity of care for both mother and newborn, particularly when pregnancies require closer monitoring or specialised intervention.

High-risk pregnancies get advanced clinical support

The maternity programme is complemented by fetal medicine and advanced laparoscopic gynaecological surgery, enabling women to access specialised assessment and treatment during different stages of their maternal journey.

Maa Kauvery will also extend care into fertility management, offering assisted reproductive services including Intrauterine Insemination (IUI) and In Vitro Fertilisation (IVF).

This creates a continuum that extends from reproductive health and conception through pregnancy and childbirth, reducing the need for patients to navigate multiple facilities for interconnected areas of care.

Level 3 NICU brings critical newborn care under one roof

A major feature of the new facility is its Level 3 Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), designed to provide advanced care for critically ill and extremely vulnerable newborns.

The NICU will cater to premature babies, including those born before 30 weeks of gestation or weighing less than 1.5 kg, with access to neonatal specialists, respiratory support and advanced life-support technologies around the clock.

For families facing a high-risk birth, the availability of specialised neonatal care within the same hospital can be particularly important, allowing newborns requiring intensive intervention to receive care without disrupting the continuity of maternal care.

24/7 paediatric emergency and critical care

Children will have access to comprehensive paediatric services backed by a Paediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) and 24/7 paediatric emergency services.

Specialised teams will be available round the clock to assess and manage critically ill and high-risk children. The paediatric spectrum includes paediatric pulmonology, nephrology, haematology, intensive care and neonatology, supported by allied clinical services.

The focus is on ensuring that children requiring urgent or highly specialised intervention can receive timely care within an integrated paediatric ecosystem.

Women’s health beyond maternity

Maa Kauvery’s mandate extends well beyond pregnancy and childbirth. Its women’s healthcare services will cover different stages of life, including adolescent health, reproductive health, menstrual health, PCOS, fertility, menopause and other gynaecological conditions.

The facility will also provide counselling and preventive-health services, alongside specialised care in gynaecologic oncology and breast health, including mammography.

By combining preventive care, early detection, specialised treatment and critical care, the hospital seeks to create a broader healthcare pathway for women rather than focusing solely on maternity.

Building on a proven women-and-children care model

Dr D Senguttuvan, Co-Founder & Executive Director, Kauvery Group of Hospitals, said,

“Women and children have healthcare needs that are unique and constantly evolving. Since 2024, Kauvery Hospital has been successfully running a 200-bed Maa Kauvery in Trichy, developing and refining an integrated model of care for women and children. With the launch of Maa Kauvery at Radial Road in Chennai, we are bringing this proven and perfected model to the city, combining specialised expertise, advanced infrastructure and compassionate care in one place. The hospital is equipped with cutting-edge technology and a team of highly trained specialists available 24/7. It will also address the evolving healthcare needs of women at every stage of life, including adolescent health, reproductive health and fertility care. Building on our experience in Trichy, this new facility aims to set new standards in paediatric and obstetric care in Chennai.”

The Chennai launch builds on Kauvery’s experience with its 200-bed Maa Kauvery facility in Trichy, which has been operational since 2024.

With its expanded clinical scope, the new Chennai facility seeks to make specialised women’s and children’s healthcare more coordinated, accessible and responsive—from reproductive and preventive health to complex pregnancies, premature births, paediatric emergencies and critical care.
