Indian Railways is stitching together a 2,532-km passenger corridor from Gujarat’s Bhuj to Bihar’s Barauni, while simultaneously strengthening the Jhansi–Agra–Mathura rail link, in two decisions that widen access to major commercial, cultural and pilgrimage destinations across western, northern and eastern India.
The new tri-weekly Bhuj–Barauni Amrit Bharat Express will connect Gujarat with Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh and Bihar, with Ahmedabad and Mathura among the prominent stations on its route. The parallel extension of the Virangana Lakshmibai Jhansi–Agra Cantt Express to Mathura will further strengthen connectivity to the Braj region.
Bhuj–Barauni: 2,532 km Gujarat-to-Bihar corridor
Train No. 19427 Bhuj–Barauni Amrit Bharat Express will depart from Bhuj at 17:30 hours and reach Barauni at 04:05 hours. In the return direction, Train No. 19428 Barauni–Bhuj Amrit Bharat Express will depart Barauni at 23:55 hours and reach Bhuj at 13:15 hours.
The Bhuj–Barauni service will operate on Monday, Wednesday and Saturday, while the Barauni–Bhuj service will operate on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday.
The long-distance service will provide an additional rail option between the western and eastern parts of India, particularly for passengers travelling between Gujarat, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh and Bihar.
Ahmedabad–Mathura among key links
The train will have commercial stoppages at Samakhiali, Ahmedabad, Ratlam, Kota, Sawai Madhopur, Gangapur City, Bharatpur, Mathura, Hathras, Bareilly, Izzatnagar, Pilibhit, Lakhimpur, Gonda, Gorakhpur, Siwan, Chhapra, Hajipur, Muzaffarpur and Samastipur, among other stations.
For Gujarat, the service creates a direct long-distance connection from Kutch and Ahmedabad towards the eastern heartland, while the Mathura halt adds another important link to one of north India’s major religious and tourism centres.
The expansion comes amid Indian Railways’ continuing push to widen affordable long-distance connectivity through Amrit Bharat services. The Railway Ministry has said such services are being expanded across important regional corridors, with affordability and passenger connectivity among the stated objectives. Jhansi–Mathura link gets another boost
In a separate decision, Indian Railways has approved the extension of Train Nos. 11901/11902 Virangana Lakshmibai Jhansi–Agra Cantt Express up to Mathura.
The extension will increase the train’s total journey distance from 217 km to 270 km, adding 53 km to the existing route and providing an additional rail link between Jhansi, Agra and Mathura.
Under the revised schedule, Train No. 11901 will leave Virangana Lakshmibai Jhansi at 16:00 hours and reach Mathura at 23:00 hours. Train No. 11902 will leave Mathura at 05:05 hours and reach Virangana Lakshmibai Jhansi at 12:50 hours.
The extended section will have commercial stoppages at Raja ki Mandi, Runkuta, Deen Dayal Dham and Baad.
The extension is expected to provide additional travel options for passengers moving between Jhansi, Agra and Mathura, while improving access to intermediate stations along the route.
With Bhuj–Barauni opening a new western–eastern passenger corridor and the Jhansi–Mathura extension strengthening the Agra–Braj axis, the two decisions add another layer to Indian Railways’ effort to expand direct and affordable connectivity across major population, business, cultural and pilgrimage centres.
