AHMEDABAD, SEPT 20

As Indian sport moves from medal-winning performances to a larger sporting ecosystem, the Adani Group has renewed its Principal Sponsorship of the Indian Olympic Association (IOA), extending its association with Team India at the Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan, and beyond. The renewal assumes added significance with Ahmedabad set to host the Commonwealth Games in 2030 and India continuing its ambition to host the Olympic and Paralympic Games in 2036.

The partnership comes at a time when Indian athletes are entering another major international campaign. The Asian Games are being held in Aichi-Nagoya from September 19 to October 4, 2026, with the renewed association continuing as Team India competes across disciplines.

The Adani Group was also associated with the Indian contingent during the Commonwealth Games Glasgow 2026, where India finished fourth in the medal standings with 39 medals — 13 gold, 17 silver and nine bronze.

‘An important moment’ for India’s sporting ecosystem

Pranav Adani, Director, Adani Enterprises Limited (AEL), said the renewal reflected the Group’s continuing commitment to Indian athletes and the wider sporting landscape.

“Indian athletes continue to make the country proud on the global stage. We are delighted to renew our association with the Indian Olympic Association as Team India prepares for the Asian Games. With Ahmedabad set to host the Commonwealth Games in 2030, this is an important moment to build a stronger sporting ecosystem and inspire many more young Indians to pursue sport. Through our ‘Garv Hai’ initiative, we remain committed to supporting India’s sporting talent and helping our athletes realise their full potential,” he said.

The renewed partnership therefore extends beyond sponsorship of a major sporting event, with the Group positioning its sports initiatives across athlete development, grassroots participation, fitness and professional sport.

PT Usha: support crucial as Indian sport moves forward

Dr PT Usha, Olympian and President, IOA, welcomed the continuation of the association, linking it to India’s recent international performance and forthcoming sporting milestones.

“India’s performance at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow reflects the talent and growing strength of our athletes. We are grateful to the Adani Group for continuing its association with the Indian Olympic Association. As we look ahead to the Asian Games and the Commonwealth Games in Ahmedabad in 2030, such support will be important in helping our athletes prepare and compete at their best. We look forward to continuing this association as Indian sport moves forward,” she said.

Her remarks come against the backdrop of India’s 39-medal performance at Glasgow, including 13 gold medals.

‘Garv Hai’ takes grassroots-to-global approach

Over the years, the Adani Group has developed a sports ecosystem encompassing grassroots development, athlete support, community participation and professional sport.

Through its ‘Garv Hai’ initiative, the Group has supported promising Indian athletes in their progression towards national and international competition.

Its sporting interventions also include multi-sport grassroots academies and initiatives aimed at widening participation and nurturing talent beyond established sporting centres.

The Group has also promoted fitness through the 10th edition of the Adani Ahmedabad Marathon, scheduled for November 29, 2026, while contributing to professional sport through franchise ownership across multiple leagues.

Ahmedabad 2030 adds a new dimension

The renewal comes with Ahmedabad preparing to host the Commonwealth Games in 2030, creating a significant opportunity to expand sporting infrastructure, athlete preparation and community participation in Gujarat.

For the Adani Group, the continuation of its IOA partnership places its sports initiatives alongside a broader national sporting trajectory—from grassroots participation and athlete development to major international events.

India is also pursuing its ambition to host the Olympic and Paralympic Games in 2036, further raising the importance of long-term sporting capacity, infrastructure and athlete development.

Team India’s next global test in Japan

The immediate focus, however, is on the Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya, where Indian athletes are competing from September 19 to October 4.

With the IOA partnership renewed, the Adani Group said its continuing engagement would support Indian sport at the highest level while complementing its initiatives aimed at expanding opportunities for athletes across the country.

The renewal thus links three levels of India’s sporting journey: nurturing talent at the grassroots, backing athletes at the elite level and building the ecosystem needed to stage major global sporting events.
