RAJKOT, OCT 1
Rajkot’s engineering heritage has found a new horsepower.
Fieldmarshal P.M. Diesels Pvt. Ltd. has unveiled what it describes as India’s first ARAI-approved TREM V-compliant single-cylinder diesel engines in the 15 HP and 18 HP categories, marking a significant step in the company’s push to combine indigenous engineering with cleaner emission technology and next-generation agricultural mechanisation. The company’s current product information identifies its 15 HP and 18 HP engines as TREM V-compliant, with the 18 HP model described as first-of-its-kind in India for single-cylinder engines.
The launch comes at a time when emission compliance is becoming an increasingly important part of agricultural and off-road engine engineering. ARAI’s current training and certification programmes specifically cover testing and certification of tractor and construction-equipment engines under CEV/TREM Stage V norms.
For Fieldmarshal, however, the new engines are not merely about meeting a regulatory benchmark. The company sees them as a technology platform for its next phase of growth.
Indigenous technology under the bonnet
Developed for compact tractors and agricultural machinery, the new engines combine the company’s established engineering approach with an indigenously developed exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) system, designed to support emission control while maintaining dependable operation.
Fieldmarshal says the engines have been engineered for demanding operating environments and long working hours, with emphasis on fuel efficiency, cooling, durability, compact packaging and ease of maintenance.
The company has also filed multiple national patent applications in India relating to its TREM V engine technology, underlining its increasing focus on in-house research, intellectual-property creation and indigenous engineering.
Its current product documentation lists the FMT15 and FMT18 as water-cooled, 3,000-rpm diesel engines, with applications spanning tractors, irrigation, pumping systems, agricultural machinery, industrial equipment and power generation.
“The development of our TREM V engine platform represents an important milestone in Fieldmarshal’s engineering journey. For more than six decades, our focus has been on developing dependable products suited to real operating conditions. The launch of our ARAI TREM V-compliant 15 HP and 18 HP single-cylinder engines, together with our multiple national patent filings around the technology, demonstrates the growing capabilities of indigenous Indian engineering,” said Rishi Patel, Director, Fieldmarshal P.M. Diesels.
Compact tractors, bigger ambitions
The new engine platform also strengthens Fieldmarshal’s presence in India’s specialised compact-tractor market through its Shridev brand.
The company estimates the below-20 HP tractor segment at around 3% of India’s overall tractor market, with annual industry volumes of approximately 40,000–45,000 units.
Fieldmarshal currently participates in this space through its Shridev 12 HP, 15 HP and 18 HP tractors, and is targeting a 10–15% share of the below-20 HP segment over the next three years.
Its ambition, however, does not stop at compact tractors.
The company plans to introduce tractors up to 30 HP in the near term, while its longer-term research and development roadmap envisages products extending towards 100 HP.
“Our ambition extends well beyond the 15 HP and 18 HP categories. We are building a wider technology and product roadmap across engines, tractors and agricultural mechanisation while simultaneously expanding into water solutions, clean energy and infrastructure-oriented equipment. Our objective is to combine Fieldmarshal’s engineering heritage with new technologies and products capable of serving the next generation of customers in India and globally,” Patel said.
From 80 engines to 160,000-plus
The scale of the transformation is visible in Fieldmarshal’s manufacturing journey.
Established in 1963 as M/s Patel Manufacturers, the company began with an annual production capacity of just 80 diesel engines. It has since evolved into a diversified engineering enterprise with annual engine-manufacturing capacity exceeding 160,000 units.
Fieldmarshal’s own milestone history records its early innovations in compact agricultural power, including the development of a small diesel engine for mini tractors and the subsequent launch of its mini-tractor range. It also records the launch of its first Indian-made 15 HP horizontal engine with TREM III A approval and the introduction of Shridev mini tractors.
The group has also built OEM and manufacturing relationships across the agricultural-equipment ecosystem, including a joint manufacturing collaboration with Mahindra & Mahindra at its Shapar facility and OEM relationships with Sonalika, ACE and KAMCO.
Its dedicated Shridev tractor manufacturing facility has a stated production capacity of up to 100 tractors a day.
60 countries and a global emissions roadmap
Fieldmarshal’s growth strategy is increasingly extending beyond India.
The company already exports its products to more than 60 countries and is developing Euro V-compatible engines for international markets.
The roadmap also envisages higher-horsepower engines and tractors, potentially extending up to 100 HP, as Fieldmarshal seeks to expand its international distributor, OEM and agricultural-equipment partnerships.
The move reflects a broader shift in the company—from being primarily identified with diesel engines and compact agricultural equipment to positioning itself as a diversified engineering group.
Beyond engines: a wider engineering canvas
Fieldmarshal is simultaneously building capabilities across several adjacent sectors.
Its planned and emerging portfolio spans advanced engines and tractors, agricultural mechanisation, garden tools and implements, water solutions, clean energy and energy storage through Fieldmarshal–Voltuel, cleaning equipment and infrastructure solutions, and the EV vehicle segment.
The company is also developing a dedicated cleaning-equipment vertical for industrial, commercial, infrastructure and municipal applications, with plans for sweeping and scrubbing machines ranging from compact and medium-duty equipment to truck-mounted systems, across petrol, diesel, electric and hybrid configurations.
The larger strategy is clear: use the company’s existing manufacturing, engineering and R&D capabilities as a common platform for multiple markets—from farms and irrigation to municipal infrastructure, industry, transport and clean energy.
For a company that began more than six decades ago with a modest 80-engine capacity, the latest TREM V launch represents more than a new product line.
It is Fieldmarshal’s attempt to put indigenous Rajkot engineering under a cleaner, smarter and increasingly global spotlight.
