“Movement gives direction, Momentum creates speed, and Mission gives purpose. These three pillars will shape not only your careers but also India’s journey towards Viksit Bharat.” With this stirring message, Union Civil Aviation Minister Kinjarapu Ram Mohan Naidu inspired the graduating class of Gati Shakti Vishwavidyalaya (GSV), urging them to become architects of India’s rapidly expanding transportation and logistics ecosystem as the Central University celebrated its Fourth Convocation in Vadodara on Friday.

The ceremony marked another milestone in India’s journey towards building world-class transportation infrastructure, with 121 students receiving degrees in B.Tech. and MBA programmes, including the University’s first-ever graduating batch of MBA in Metro Rail Management. In a historic first, GSV also conferred its Honorary Ph.D. (Honoris Causa) upon E. Sreedharan, the legendary Metro Man of India, in recognition of his extraordinary contribution to the country’s transportation and infrastructure revolution.

Recognising academic excellence, Gold Medals were awarded to Vivek Yadav, Sandeep Patel, Abhinandan Gupta, Rishav Tripathi and Suresh Sengundarmudliyar across various disciplines. The Outstanding Project Award-2026 went to Durgesh Kumar and Sandeep Patel, while Vivek Kumar was honoured as the Best Graduating Student of 2026.

Delivering the Convocation Address, Kinjarapu Ram Mohan Naidu centred his speech on the ‘Three Ms’—Movement, Momentum and Mission, describing them as the guiding principles for young professionals committed to building a developed India.

Highlighting the country’s unprecedented transformation in transportation, aviation and the PM Gati Shakti National Master Plan, the Minister underlined the immense opportunities emerging in the Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul (MRO) sector, calling it one of India’s biggest employment generators for the coming decade.

He lauded GSV for designing an Aircraft Maintenance Engineering curriculum within just four months of its partnership with the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) and assured the University of the Ministry of Civil Aviation’s continued support.

Praising GSV’s close collaboration with industry, he described its industry-driven academic model as a benchmark that other higher educational institutions across the country could emulate.

Receiving the University’s first-ever Honorary Doctorate, E. Sreedharan urged graduates to remain lifelong learners and cultivate values that define enduring success.

He stressed that punctuality, integrity, professional competence and the right attitude are indispensable qualities for every engineer and manager. Encouraging students to contribute meaningfully to society, he said strong character and good health were equally essential for nation-building.

Vadodara MP Dr Hemang Joshi described the occasion as especially memorable, noting that the degrees were awarded on the same day India launched its first indigenously developed Hydrogen Train under the leadership of the Prime Minister.

Congratulating the University on its 100% placement record, he reminded graduates that their degree represented “not a destination but a milestone” in a much longer journey of excellence.

Rajmata of Baroda Her Highness Shubhanginiraje Gaekwad advised students to remain firmly rooted in values while embracing sustainable development and responsible leadership.

Sukaran Singh, CEO & Managing Director, Tata Advanced Systems Limited, emphasised the importance of strong testing ecosystems, progressive regulations and innovation-driven manufacturing. Referring to Tata’s growing aerospace and defence initiatives, he encouraged graduates to “be the transformation” by embracing challenges and creating solutions for India’s future.

Earlier, Vice Chancellor Prof. Manoj Choudhary presented the University’s progress report, highlighting GSV’s rapid emergence as India’s premier institution dedicated exclusively to transportation, logistics and infrastructure education.

Established through an Act of Parliament on December 6, 2022, Gati Shakti Vishwavidyalaya, a Central University under the Ministry of Railways and headed by Chancellor Ashwini Vaishnaw, offers specialised undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral programmes spanning Rail Engineering, Aviation Engineering and Operations, Maritime Engineering, Logistics and Supply Chain Management, Metro Rail Management, Ports and Shipping Logistics, and Road and Highway Engineering.

Aligned with the National Education Policy 2020, the University follows a demand-driven, industry-oriented curriculum designed to create future-ready professionals. Beyond regular academic programmes, GSV has emerged as the country’s principal capacity-building institution for transportation and logistics, training probationers and serving officers from the Railways, Armed Forces and Civil Services.

As the national nodal agency for capacity building under the PM Gati Shakti National Master Plan, the University has already trained more than 2.4 lakh officers, reinforcing its growing role in creating the skilled workforce needed to power India’s infrastructure-led growth story.
