The COVID-19 tally in Gujarat rose to 1,79,679 on Saturday with the addition of 1,046 new cases, the state health department said.
With the death of five patients, including two in Ahmedabad and one each in Banaskantha, Surat, and Vadodara, the cumulative toll in the state went up to 3,756, it said.
A total of 931 patients were discharged during the day, which took the total number of recoveries to 1,63,777, the department said, adding that the state”s recovery rate now stands at 91.15 percent.
51,761 tests were conducted in the state in the last 24 hours, at the rate of 796.32 tests per day per million population.
This took the total samples tested for the virus in the state so far to 64,16,963.
At 192, Surat reported the highest number of new cases in the state in the day, followed by Ahmedabad with 182 infections.
Vadodara and Rajkot reported 120 and 113 cases, respectively, said the department.
Among other districts, Mehsana reported 57 new cases, Gandhinagar 39, Patan 36, Jamnagar 30, Banaskantha, and Narmada 24 each, Junagadh, Bharuch, Kutch and Surendranagar 20 each, Sabarkantha 16, Dahod and Morbi 15 each, Amreli 14, Kheda 12, etc.
The number of active cases in Gujarat now stands at 12,146, it said.
In the Union Territory of Daman, Diu and Dadra, and Nagar Haveli, the tally of cases went up to 3,247, while the number of recoveries rose to 3,213.
The number of active cases in the UT now stands at 32, officials said.

Ahmedabad sees 182 cases, 2 deaths; 207 recover
Ahmedabad reported 182 COVID-19 cases on Saturday, taking the district’s tally to 43,738, while two people died and 207 recovered during the day, an official said.
The toll in the district is 1,932 while the number of people who have been discharged stands at 38,608, he added.
“Ahmedabad city reported 189 recoveries against 161 new cases, while the rural areas reported 18 recoveries and 21 new cases. In the city, the north-west zone has the highest number of active cases at 447, followed by 443 in the south and 438 in the west. the Central zone, with 282 cases, is at the bottom of the list,” the official said.
An Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation official said action would be taken under the Epidemic Diseases Act against eight patients who were found to have violated isolation rules over the past two days by remaining missing from their homes.
The number of micro containment areas under AMC limits reached 101 after eight areas were added and one removed from the earlier list of 94, he added.
Rural Ahmedabad now has 3,074 cases, while the recovery rate has reached 97 percent as 2,990 people have been discharged so far, he said.
