The Quality Council of India (QCI) organised the Gujarat Gunvatta Sankalp, a conference dedicated to quality interventions across priority sectors in Gujarat, where senior state ministers and experts on Thursday emphasised quality’s vital role in healthcare, education, industry, and other areas and enhancing the overall quality of life.
Speaking at a session on healthcare, Gujarat Health and Family Welfare Minister Rushikesh Patel, urged QCI to undertake a gap analysis of healthcare institutions in the state.
“We are very eager to improve patient care in Gujarat. I request QCI to conduct a survey of health centres and hospitals and share the shortcomings with us. This will help us in identifying and implementing the changes needed to deliver better healthcare services and quality treatment. There is also a need to carry out regular assessments after the certifications are granted,” he said.
He also highlighted the success of the Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (PMJAY) in making quality healthcare accessible to crores of citizens.
Jaxay Shah, Chairperson of the Quality Council of India, said, “Quality is the cornerstone of progress and development and the Gujarat Gunvatta Sankalp event reflects our commitment to it. By working together with the state government and stakeholders from the industry, we aim to create an environment where quality is ingrained in every aspect of life, ensuring a better future for all citizens of Gujarat.”
Speaking at another session, Industries Minister Balvantsinh Rajput spoke about Gujarat’s emergence as an industrial powerhouse in the past two decades.
“Gujarat has 11% share of India’s industries, 18% share of the manufacturing output, and 33% share of exports. Gujarat has taken proactive measures to reduce logistics costs, usher in enhanced efficiencies and ensure availability of skilled manpower. The state government is focused on quality to enhance the competitiveness of our industries,” Rajput said.
Minister of State for MSMEs, Jagdish Panchal, described time, commitment and transparency as the three pillars of the Quality Council of India. He noted that quality is essential in every aspect of life, and needs to be taken up as a movement.
In his address, Minister of State for Home, Harsh Sanghavi, emphasised the importance of access to education, clean environment, healthcare services, and employment opportunities for quality of life.
“Quality of life is possible only when law and order are maintained, women’s safety is prioritised, and industries operate smoothly. We are committed to ensuring a safe and secure living environment for the citizens,” he said, adding that Gujarat is the most developed state and a role model because of its continuous efforts for improvement.
Speaking at the inaugural session of the event earlier in the day, Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel said the state has accelerated progress in building a developed Gujarat under the 5G model, which stands for Garvu Gujarat, Gunvantu Gujarat, Green Gujarat, Global Gujarat, and Gatishil Gujarat, and called for adding another G of Gunvatta (quality) in the 5G model.
Experts at the conference highlighted the importance of holistic and sustainable development, enhancing the quality of life with the aid of technology, affordable and quality healthcare, empowering citizens through education and skilling, and the need for citizen-centric services. They also emphasised that quality is not a choice but a compulsion, especially if the country aims to strengthen its position as a manufacturing powerhouse.
Prominent speakers at the conference included Commissioner of Health Harshad Patel, Labour, Skill Development and Employment Department’s ACS Anju Sharma, Sports, Youth and Cultural Activities Department’s Principal Secretary Ashwani Kumar, DGP (law and order) Shamsher Singh, Commissioner of Municipal Administration Rajkumar Beniwal, Revenue Department’s ACS MK Das, and Science and Technology Department’s Principal Secretary Mona Khandhar, among others.
