550 women are diagnosed with breast cancer every day in India, and 240 women lose their life to breast cancer each day. The studies also confirm that one in 25 Indian women develops breast cancer, while one in two women diagnosed with breast cancer will succumb to it, says a study.
October is observed globally as Breast Awareness Month. HCG Cancer Center, Vadodara, too has kickstarted a breast cancer awareness campaign in Vadodara to mark the month. A formal announcement was made on Saturday here.
The campaign is aimed at creating awareness about the increasing occurrence of breast cancer among women and the importance of preventive steps and early detection to save lives.
“The hospital will be offering breast cancer screening, including mammography, USG breast, doctor consultation and clinical examination, at a discounted price till October 31. These are preventive steps that allow for early diagnosis and prevent women from losing their breasts or life to breast cancer,” said Dr Rajiv Bhatt, director of Surgical Oncology at HCG Cancer Centre, Vadodara.
“Throughout the month, HCG Cancer Centre Vadodara will be lit in pink to support breast cancer fighters, salute the survivors, honour the stakeholders and symbolise our ardent support in the fight against breast cancer,” said Varun Mishra, Chief Operating Officer of HCG Cancer Center.
Sharing more details of the programme, he said, “We have joined hands with the royal family of Vadodara to light up Laxmi Vilas Palace and Kirti Mandir in pink from October 14 to 16, which is also World Mammography Day. We hope that the example set by the royal family to support the fight against breast cancer is mirrored by every Barodian.”
The office of Vadodara Municipal Corporation (VMC) will also be lit in pink on the Diwali weekend.
Dr Bhatt said that HCG Cancer Centre has been organising health talks with communities of Vadodara, and urged interested parties to contact the hospital for more such awareness talks. He also invited citizens to post selfies with these sites lit in pink on social media and tag @hcgvadodara. Participants will qualify for a lucky draw and stand to win a smartwatch, he added.
