Responding to a medical emergency alert, the Indian Coast Guard (ICG) on Wednesday mobilised its assets and successfully evacuated a fisherman off Pipavav in Gujarat.
“The ICGS Pipavav received information from Fishing Association, Jafrabad regarding medical emergency onboard IFB Maa Kuldevi at sea about 90km from Jafrabad. In a swift Medical Evacuation (MEDEVAC) operation, the ICG ship, C-419 was immediately diverted to the datum. Ship proceeded with max speed and established communication with IFB Maa Kuldevi (IND-GJ-14-MM-1649). On arrival, the ship found that the patient namely Kalu Deva Bareiya, 57, was having severe chest pain and seizure episodes. The fisherman was safely evacuated to ICG ship C-419 which then proceeded to nearest harbour i.e. Pipavav, with maximum speed. Post arrival at harbour, the patient was safely handed over to representatives of the local Fisheries Association for onward transfer to hospital and further treatment. The condition of the patient is reported to be stable,” said the Indian Coast Guard in a press release.
