A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was officially signed on Saturday between the IIT Gandhinagar and L&T Semiconductor Technologies (LTSCT) to foster collaborative research and development in the semiconductor sector.
The signing ceremony was honoured by the presence of several high-profile dignitaries, including S. Krishnan, Secretary of DeitY, Government of India; Magesh Ethirajan, Director-General of the Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (C-DAC), Executive Secretary of C-DAC; Sandeep Kumar, CEO of L&T Semiconductor Technologies, and Prof. Rajat Moona, Director of IIT Gandhinagar, along with all Deans, Senior Professors, and faculty members of IIT Gandhinagar.
The MoU marks the beginning of a significant partnership to drive India’s technological progress. The collaboration will focus on the joint development of key Government of India ID IC projects such as ePassport, eDriving license, eAadhar, EVM, and NAVIC IC for cell phones. Additionally, the partnership will advance Quantum Encryption Algorithm (QEA) development under the Telecom Technology Development Fund (TTDF) scheme, contributing to the Aatmanirbhar Bharat vision.
A crucial aspect of this partnership is the commitment to enhancing design, development, and embedded capacity within the semiconductor sector by upskilling ITI workforces. This will be achieved through curriculum development, trainer programs, and certification courses in semiconductor design and manufacturing. The collaboration is set to further boost research and skill development through the Silicon and Advanced Manufacturing Research and Training Hub (SAMARTH) initiative and foster cooperation in the Electronics System Design and Manufacturing (ESDM) sector.
