Kauvery Hospital Chennai, a flagship unit of the Kauvery Group of Hospitals, renowned for its multispecialty healthcare services in Tamil Nadu, on Monday announced the inauguration of ‘Dishoom Dishoom Diabetes,’ a unique initiative in honor of World Diabetes Day.
‘Dishoom Dishoom Diabetes’ is a comprehensive expo designed to address the effective management of diabetic ailments. Scheduled for December 3rd the event will offer free check-ups on Vitals, Blood Sugar Test, Lipid Profile, Fundus Screening, Fibro Scan, Foot Study, Refractry Screening Test, Dental Screening and Biothesiometry. Beyond health screenings, attendees can explore stalls featuring diabetic-friendly foods, diet supplements, footwear, physiotherapy, diet counseling, and various other diabetic care products.
India has an estimated 77 million people (1 in 11 Indians) formally diagnosed with diabetes, which makes it the second most affected in the world. Furthermore, 7,00,000 Indians died of diabetes, hyperglycemia, kidney disease or other complications of diabetes in 2020. One in six people (17%) in the world with diabetes is from India.
Dr. K Baraneedharan, Senior Consultant Diabetologist, speaking on the occasion, emphasized the critical nature of diabetes as a chronic disease, warning of its potentially fatal consequences if not diagnosed or managed effectively. Untreated diabetes can lead to severe health complications, including cardiovascular disease, nerve damage, kidney damage, Alzheimer’s disease, and depression. Dr. K Baraneedharan highlighted often overlooked risk factors such as obesity, sedentary lifestyle, genetics, age, and family history, urging attendees to become educated on disease risks and management.
In a pioneering move, Kauvery Hospital introduces ‘Diabetes on Wheels.’ This specially equipped vehicle will traverse Chennai for 100 days, screening people for diabetes as part of an awareness campaign. The initiative underscores the hospital’s commitment to proactive healthcare and community outreach.
