To bring succor to the renal patients during the extended lockdown, the Institute of Kidney Research Centre (IKDRC) has started door delivery of medicines for post-transplant and renal care patients, a statement released by the institute said on Wednesday.
IKDRC, popularly known as Kidney Hospital, has started the dedicated door-delivery facility for its patients, after receiving hundreds of requests by patients and their relatives to home deliver medicines during the lockdown. “We have received nearly 100 complaints daily during earlier lockdowns and managed to deliver medicines to several of them through speed posts and alternative mode of transportation,” said Dr Vineet Mishra, Director IKDRC-ITS. “Any patient under renal care and especially those who have undergone organ transplant requires an uninterrupted supply of medicines during the post-operative period, so we have decided to permanently extend this facility,” added Dr Mishra.
The medicine dispatch department which has become operational will receive a request from patients undergoing treatment at IKDRC. The patients can send requests with their details and medicine prescribed on WhatsApp (96878 79442 repeat 96878 79442) and social media handles between 9 am and 5 pm. The requests received will be further processed by the department to verify the authenticity of the patient and the medicines prescribed. The statement added that after deduction of the amount from the account balance maintained by the patient with the institute, the medicine requested will go for dispatch.
IKDRC which is at the forefront of organ transplant in the country with over 6,500 kidney and liver transplants, supplies subsidized medicines to its renal care patients. However, patients were unable to get medicines from the institute’s drug store due to lockdown coupled with the non-availability of prescribed medicines in the open market.
