In the high-stakes fight against terrorism, where precision and split-second decisions can determine lives, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday saluted the National Security Guard (NSG) on its 42nd Raising Day, praising the elite force’s courage, operational precision and unwavering commitment to protecting citizens and the country’s vital assets.
In a message posted on X, Modi extended greetings to NSG personnel and highlighted their constant vigilance against terrorism and readiness to respond to threats to national security.
“Greetings to the personnel of the National Security Guard on their Raising Day.
“They embody courage, precision and an unwavering commitment to duty. Their steadfast vigil against terrorism and their readiness to protect our people and vital national assets inspire immense confidence and pride,” the Prime Minister said.
The NSG, popularly known as the ‘Black Cats’, is India’s specialised counter-terrorism force under the Union Ministry of Home Affairs. Its personnel are trained for exceptional security situations requiring specialised counter-terrorism capabilities.
Tribute to courage and sacrifice
Union Home Minister Amit Shah also extended greetings to NSG personnel, praising their courage, professionalism and sacrifices in safeguarding the country against terrorist threats.
In his message, Shah paid tribute to the force’s personnel for their resolve and operational professionalism, while remembering those who made the supreme sacrifice in the line of duty.
The Raising Day marks the evolution of a specialised force created to address the challenges posed by terrorism and other exceptional security threats.
A specialised force for exceptional threats
The NSG was established on October 16, 1984, following the government’s decision to create a specially trained, equipped and motivated force to deal with terrorism. The National Security Guard Act was enacted in 1986, and the force formally came into being that year.
The force is trained to undertake specialised operations in exceptional circumstances, including counter-terrorism tasks that demand high levels of coordination, discipline and precision.
Modi’s message on the 42nd Raising Day underscored the importance of the NSG’s continuing vigilance and preparedness in protecting citizens and critical national assets from terrorist threats.
