Operation Samudra Setu: INS Airavat set to sail from Male with 250 stranded Indians

As the next phase of Operation Samudra Setu commences, immigration/check-in activities began on Sunday at Velana Airport for embarking Indian citizens onboard INS Airavat to bring them back. In this phase, INS Airavat will repatriate approx 250 people from Maldives to Tamil Nadu’s Tuticorin, a Defence statement said.

According to the Indian Navy, the INS Airavat reached Male on Saturday, June 20.
This operation was launched on May 7, as part of national effort to repatriate Indian citizens from overseas and has been proactively instituting measures to ensure preparedness to face the challenges posed by the global pandemic of COVID-19. The Indian Navy launched Operation ‘Samudra Setu’ as part of the national effort to repatriate Indian citizens from overseas.
