The Medical Centre of the Indian Institute of Technology Gandhinagar (IITGN) organised a Tuberculosis (TB) awareness session at the Institute here on Monday. The event was held at the Jibaben Patel (Kanisa) Memorial Auditorium and was conducted as part of the Government of India’s 100-day Intensified Campaign for TB Elimination.
This initiative, aligned with the National Tuberculosis (TB) Eradication Program, sought to raise awareness about tuberculosis, its prevention, and treatment options. Monika Shukla, District DR-TB, TB-HIV Coordinator at the Gandhinagar Municipal Corporation, delivered an insightful session covering essential topics, including the different types of TB, its primary symptoms, methods of diagnosis, treatment, and modes of transmission.
More than 150 housekeeping staff members participated in the program, and an interactive question-and-answer session followed Shukla’s presentation. During this session, staff members raised queries related to precautionary measures against TB.
In her responses, Shukla highlighted the Government of India’s commitment to providing free TB treatment through the National Tuberculosis Elimination Program (NTEP), which includes access to free medicines, diagnostic services, and comprehensive support for affected individuals. The program ensures that no person faces financial barriers when seeking TB treatment.
