The four candidates of the ruling YSR Congress, including Reliance Industries Limited Senior Group President Parimal Nathwani, on Wednesday filed their nomination papers for the biennial election to Rajya Sabha from Andhra Pradesh.
Deputy Chief Minister Pilli Subhash Chandra Bose, Minister Mopidevi Venkata Ramana, industrialist Alla Ayodhya Rami Reddy and Reliance Industries Limited Senior Group President Parimal Nathwani filed their nominations with Legislature Secretary and Returning Officer Balakrishnamacharyulu.
Earlier, the four candidates met Chief Minister and YSRC president Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy at his residence and received the Form-B, as the official nominees of the party.
Parimal Nathwani, a consecutive two-term Rajya Sabha MP representing Jharkhand from 2008 onwards, has decided to stand for election from Andhra Pradesh after Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy and his party YSR Congress assured to give him a seat.
After filing his nomination, Nathwani said, “Shri YS Jagan Mohan Reddy is a young and dynamic Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh and adored by the people of the State. YSR Congress won 151 seats out of 175 in the State Assembly election last year – this shows the popularity of Shri Jagan Mohan Reddy. He faced lots of difficulties and challenges after the death of his father Shri YS Rajasekhara Reddy. But he overcame all odds and obstacles in his way and became CM after a thumping electoral victory last year.” Nathwani further added that he is fully committed to serving the people of Andhra Pradesh.
Development works in Jharkhand
Two-term (12 years) Rajya Sabha MP from Jharkhand, Parimal Nathwani has done exemplary work and utilised funds under Member of Parliament Local Area Development (MPLAD) and Saansad Adarsh Gram Yojana (SAGY) to near 100 per cent for rural infrastructure, education, health, sanitation, skill development, etc. The three model village panchayats Baram-Jaratoli, Chuttu and Barwadag adopted by him under SAGY and development work did there by him has been very extensive.
One of the pillars of Reliance Industries
Nathwani is well known as a key man of RIL Chairman & MD Mukesh Ambani’s core team. He considers Reliance patriarch Dhirubhai Ambani as his mentor and role model. He played a pivotal role in setting up the world’s largest refinery complex at Jamnagar in Gujarat. Besides accomplishing, land acquisition amicably, Nathwani also steered project execution creating the infrastructure for RIL’s Petroleum Retail outlets, retail foray, Gas transportation pipeline and Jio Mobile Network across the western states of India, etc.
Voice of Saurashtra
He had flair for public life from his younger days, and was associated with MPs of Saurashtra and once he even attempted to contest assembly election from his native place Jam Khambhalia. He was considered as ‘Voice of Saurashtra’ due to his involvement in public life for taking up people’s issues to various forums.
Patron of Cricket
Parimal Nathwani is the person who until recently as Vice President of Gujarat Cricket Association (GCA) successfully monitored, supervised and executed the world’s largest stadium at Motera in Ahmedabad, the much talked about the venue for ‘Namaste Trump’. The Stadium at Motera, with a capacity of over one lakh spectators, is constructed from scratch.
Visionary businessman
Nathwani as a member of various Business Delegations of Government of Gujarat travelled to over a dozen countries, including China, Japan, Russia, South Korea, Switzerland, Uganda, Kenya, Astrakhan, etc and participated in Vibrant Gujarat Roadshows. This allowed him to interact with global business leaders.
Spiritual and Charity Services
Nathwani remained vice chairman of Dwarkadheesh Temple Trust in Gujarat for about 15 years. He steered and participated on behalf of Reliance in the development of the holy town of Dwarka in the association of the Government of Gujarat. Dwarka in Gujarat is the only holy town of India that finds a place both in ‘Char Dham’ and ‘Saptapuri’ pilgrimage of the world’s most ancient religion Sanatan Dharma.
Nathwani is also a Member on Nathdwara Temple Board for more than 9 years. The Board is a supreme managing body for the famous Pushti Margi Shrinathji shrine in Rajasthan.
Boost for football
Football in Gujarat got a boost with Nathwani’s election as president of the Gujarat State Football Association (GSFA) in the later half of 2019. He is supporting football activities at the grass-root level in Gujarat on a sound footing.
Prolific writer and green warrior
‘Gir Lion: Pride of Gujarat’ and ‘Jharkhand Meri Karmabhoomi (Hindi)’; two of his books speak volumes of Nathwani’s capabilities. ‘Adorable and Admirable Parimal Nathwani’, one more book on his substantial contribution to Jharkhand is soon to be launched by the Times of India, Ranchi.

“I am committed to serving the people of Andhra Pradesh,” says Nathwani. At the same time, he added that he would continue his attachment and bond with Jharkhand and its people.

With a strength of 151 MLAs in the 175-member AP Assembly, the YSRC is comfortably placed to win all the four seats.
