PM Modi virtually launches 2,000 railway projects worth ₹41,000 crore

Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid foundation stones for redevelopment of 44 railways stations in Southern Railways, including 34 in Tamil Nadu of which Dharmapuri and Hosur come under the jurisdiction of South Western Railway, under “Amrit Bharat Station” scheme on Monday. The stations include Chennai Beach, Mambalam, St.Thomas Mount, Chennai Park, Ambattur, Guindy, Mettupalayam, Coimbatore North, Erode, Morappur, Virudhachalam, etc.

Narendra Modi virtually laid the foundation stone for 554 Amrit Bharat Stations and dedicated/laid the foundation stone for 1,500 Road Over Bridges (ROB) /Road Under Bridges (RUB) to the nation. This mega event was planned across 2,000 locations throughout India.

Ceremonial functions in Southern Railway

In Southern Railway, 44 Amrit Bharat Stations foundation stones were laid, and 75 ROBs had their foundation stones laid, 4 ROBs and 114 RUBs were also dedicated to the Nation. As part of this grand event, Southern Railway has organized ceremonial functions at 237 locations/railway stations across the zone on Monday.

In his speech, PM accorded a special mention for redevelopment of Kumbakonam station in Tamil Nadu under Amrit Bharat Station Scheme. He stated that the proposed redevelopment would render an architectural facelift to the station by combining Chola – Dravidian style of architecture

In Tamil Nadu, Governor RN Ravi participated and graced the occasion at St. Thomas Mount Railway station.  Union Minister of state for Information and Broadcasting, Animal Husbandry, Dairying & Fisheries L. Murugan took part in the function held at Mettuppalayam Railway station.

Kerala

In Kerala, Arif Mohammed Khan, Governor of Kerala virtually attended the function. V. Muraleedharan, Minister of State for External Affairs of India participated at 2 venues held at Janatamukku Gate and Edava Gate in Attingal Constituency.

In Puducherry, N Rangaswamy, Chief Minister, Puducherry, took part in the event held at ROB Venue, Villianur.

All the function venues were virtually connected to the Central function.  Prizes were distributed during the function to the school students who had participated and won awards at various competitions held as run up to this event.

Amrit Bharat Stations in SR

PM on Monday laid the foundation stone for 44 railway stations in Southern Railway which include Chennai Beach, Chennai Park, Ambattur, St. Thomas Mount, Guindy, Mambalam, Mettupalayam, Coimbatore North, Erode, Morappur, Dindigul, Tuticorin, Tiruchendur, Mayiladuturai, Kumbakonam, Vriddhachalam, Chengannur, Thrissur, Guruvayur, Ottapalam, Nilambur Road and Kannur, among others.

A total of 77 stations in Tamil Nadu are being taken up under this initiative of “Amrit Bharat Station” at a cost of more than Rs.4,100 crores. Of these, Phase -1 works are in progress at 18 stations for which the foundation stone was laid by Hon’ble PM in August 2023. Now, on Monday, PM laid the foundation stone for 34 Amrit Stations in Tamil Nadu, including Dharmapuri and Hosur under the jurisdiction of South Western Railway

A total of 35 stations in Kerala are being taken up under this initiative of “Amrit Bharat Station” at a cost of more than Rs. 3,000 crores. Of these, Phase -1 works are in progress at 7 stations for which the foundation stone was laid by PM in August 2023. Now, on Monday, the PM laid the foundation stone for 10 Amrit Stations in Tamil Nadu.

PM laid the foundation stone for 75 ROBs and dedicated to the nation 4 ROBs and 114 RUBs.

These bridged and under passes in place of level Crossing gates will enhance safety for road users, reduce detention of road vehicles and strengthen the connectivity by acting as bridge linking villages and towns.

It will also enhance efficiency of train operations by reducing detentions, improving speed and ensuring optimum utilisation of rail infrastructure.
