The Tamil Nadu State Election Commission (TNSEC) has issued an order on Saturday that the poll duty is optional for differently-abled persons.
The TNSEC has issued an order in this regard based on a memorandum submitted by All Types of Differently Abled & Caregivers (TARATDAC) to exempt differently-abled persons from poll duty, said its General Secretary S. Namburajan here on Saturday.
In its memorandum the TARATDAC stated that the district-level officials are compelling differently-abled persons to take part in poll duty slated to be held on December 27 and 30, respectively, in the state.
Acting on the request, the TNSEC Secretary L. Subramaniam issued an order that the poll duty should be allocated to only the willing differently-abled persons. The order has been mailed to all the District Election Officers on Friday evening, the release added.
