With the 2024 Olympics in Paris approaching, the Table Tennis Federation of India (TTFI) is stuck with internal conflicts and several vacant positions within its executive committee. This situation has sparked concerns about the fair representation of athletes and the efficiency of the federation’s operations which may impact the success of Indian players in the upcoming Olympics.
The vacancies in key positions within the TTFI Executive Committee have hampered the federation’s ability to conduct fair and transparent elections, comply with legal and regulatory requirements. Also, it failed to ensure proper representation of the athlete within the committee.
Yatharth Pandya, President of the Sports Activists Association of India, has issued a legal notice to the President-Secretary General of the Table Tennis Federation of India and the Secretary (Sports) of the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, urging their immediate intervention.
Pandya emphasized the significance of the forthcoming Paris Olympics for India, expressing hopes for a stellar performance from the national team. However, the reality on the ground is different. Vacancies within the federation have exacerbated unresolved issues and created a void in effective decision-making, neglecting the inclusion of sports personalities and capable organizations. As a result, players and the nation are left to bear the brunt of these internal disputes.
Pandya urged the Government of India and the Sports Ministry to swiftly address this pressing issue and establish a transparent framework by engaging with empowered officials within the federation.
It’s important to understand that the current problems not only put players’ futures at risk but also weaken the government’s efforts to support sports. Immediate action is needed to rectify these shortcomings and ensure a conducive environment for Indian athletes to thrive on the global stage.
