The Salem Division of Southern Railway has shown its commitment by operating a Parcel Special train between Salem in Tamil Nadu and Dimapur in Nagaland on Thursday. The train comprising five high capacity parcel vans, and one SLR was carrying the Aavin’ s milk of Salem and medicines to Assam rifles of Dimapur, a railways release said.

This parcel special train had left Salem Junction at 8 a.m. on Thursday (April 30) carrying 1.15 lakh litres of milk and eight tonnes of medicines.
Parcel loading, which was lying in a dormant stage, has been revived by the Salem Division with its intensive marketing drive conducted under the leadership of E. Harikrishnan, Senior Divisional Commercial Manager, Salem, which has resulted in sending the special parcel train from Salem to Dimapur in Nagaland state to meet the demands of Assam Rifles.
While earning Rs. 8.3 lakhs revenue for the Indian Railways in this time of lockdown, the Division is proud to share the responsibility of moving essential commodities by ensuring all safety precautions. Loading personnel were permitted inside the Railway premises only after screening them with handheld infrared thermometers.

Also, social-distancing has been strictly maintained among the loading personnel during the loading and they have been supplied with masks and hand sanitizers, thus fulfilling all safety norms and helping the nation’s fight against Covid-19.
Loading of essentials was monitored by E. Harikrishnan, Senior Divisional Commercial Manager and his team. U. Subba Rao, Divisional Railway Manager, and A. Annadurai, Additional Divisional Railway Manager of Salem have appreciated the efforts of the commercial team.
Commenting on this, E. Harikrishnan said railways has been providing round-the-clock service in moving essential commodities to nook and corner of the nation through exclusive parcel vans.
Manufacturing units and traders associations are invited to move their consignment through Rail. These Parcel Express Trains are operated given COVID-19 outbreak to help reach medical essentials to various places. This Parcel Express serves for the movement of medicines, medical equipment, masks, food items, food products, stationeries, couriers and other medical essentials.
