The first Sunday showdown of the Shriram Capital Tamil Nadu Premier League 2022 saw the Lyca Kovai Kings take on the field for the first time in this season against Dindigul Dragons.
Dindigul Dragons registered their first win in the league by chasing a big score of 188 with 5 wickets in hand.
With an uphill task of chasing 189 for victory, captain Hari Nishaanth led the Dragons’ batting unit from the front knocked a hefty 36-ball 60 and putting on a 100-run partnership for the first wicket with his fellow opener K Vishal Vaidya (49 off 40 balls). With his knock, Hari Nishaanth recorded his 12th fifty in his TNPL career.
Dindigul Dragons were in a strong position in the first ten overs until the loss of the captain. Then, coming in at one down, Mani Bharathy (7 runs) was run out cheaply, and Kovai’s captain Shahrukh Khan dismissed the well-settled Vishal Vaidhya (49 off 40 balls) one short of his fifty.
With the game well balanced, Dindugul’s R Vivek (22 runs from 10 balls), showed his six hitting skill to the packed audience in India Cements Cricket ground, Tirunelveli.
However, with the fall of his wicket Dindigul’s AG Pradeep and Monish Satish put on a final show taking the Dindigul Dragons to their first win of the season.
Earlier while batting first Lyca Kovai Kings recorded the top score of the 6th season of the Shriram Capital Tamil Nadu Premier League, scoring a hefty 188/8 in their allotted 20 overs. With contributions from all batsmen, youngster U Mukileshstole the limelight with his 25-ball 49. R. Vivek (3/35 from 4 Overs) and M Silambarasan (2/22 from 4 overs) kept things under control in spite of the onslaught from the Kovai batsmen.
After the defeat, Kovai captain Shah Rukh Khan said, “We were a few runs short. We need to focus more on our bowling and work hard to recover from the defeat in this match and win the next game.”
Dindigul captain Hari Nishanth said after the win, “We are happy to be back on winning ways after the defeat in the last match, but we as a unit would need to focus a little more on fielding”
AG Pradeep, who stirred the Dragons to victory, said, “We hope to continue this winning run, and hopefully, it goes all the way.”
