Marking 93 years of unparalleled service and sacrifice, the Indian Air Force (IAF) celebrated its anniversary at the South Western Air Command (SWAC) headquarters in Gandhinagar with a series of events saluting the courage, precision, and professionalism of its Air Warriors — past and present.

Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, who attended the High Tea reception on Sunday, lauded the IAF’s role as “the first line of defence and the pride of every Indian citizen.”
“The IAF has repeatedly proved its mettle — from humanitarian relief to combat operations. The courage and discipline shown in Operation Sindoor have once again demonstrated that our skies are in safe hands,” the Chief Minister said, adding that Gujarat was proud to host the SWAC, a command of immense strategic significance.

The celebration began on October 4 with the ‘SNCOs’ at Home’ event at the Officers’ Mess, promoting unity and camaraderie among Senior Non-Commissioned Officers and Officers. The following day saw a reciprocal get-together hosted by the SNCOs for Officers, reflecting the Air Force’s strong culture of teamwork and respect across all ranks.
Addressing the gathering, Air Marshal Nagesh Kapoor, Air Officer Commanding-in-Chief, SWAC, extended greetings to all personnel and their families, praising their unflinching dedication.

“The South Western Air Command, by virtue of its strategic location, remains on the frontline of national defence. The professionalism shown in Operation Sindoor showcased the IAF’s ability to respond swiftly and effectively to emerging challenges,” he said.
“Modernisation and self-reliance are not just goals but necessities. The unwavering commitment of our Air Warriors ensures that the IAF continues to be a responsive, responsible, and resilient force,” he added.
Senior Air Staff Officer Air Marshal S. Shrinivas highlighted the importance of nurturing the next generation of Air Warriors through discipline and innovation.

“The oath each Air Warrior takes is more than a tradition — it’s a reaffirmation of our sacred duty to the nation’s integrity and security,” he remarked.
As part of the ongoing celebrations, a Barakhana at the Airmen Mess on October 8 and a social evening at the Officers’ Mess on October 12 will bring together serving personnel, veterans, and their families. On Air Force Day (October 8), Air Marshal S. Shrinivas will administer the Oath of Allegiance to all Air Warriors, symbolizing their enduring vow to protect the nation’s skies.
The 93rd Anniversary celebrations at SWAC thus stand as a tribute to tradition, technology, and tenacity — celebrating not just a proud history, but a force forever ready for the future.
