The 128th meeting of the Zonal Railway Users Consultative Committee (ZRUCC) of Southern Railway was held on Friday in Chennai. Two MPs, one MLA and 37 other members of the committee participated in the meeting and raised the problems of their respective areas and gave suggestions regarding improvement.

Earlier, General Manager BG Mallya while welcoming the MPs, MLAs and members said that we are always on the way to take this Zonal Railway forward continuously by increasing the efficiency in the field and in this direction “Passenger Facilitation” is the top priority.

MPs Kodikunnil Suresh & Dr T Sumathy (alias) Thamizhachchi Thangapandian and  MLA Durai  Chandrasekar  along with other members of ZRUCC gave their valuable suggestions on issues related to development of rail infrastructure, increase in passenger amenities and public aspirations

Members nominated by State Governments, Principal Chamber of Commerce & Industry, registered Passenger Associations, Public Sector Undertaking, nominees of Minister of Railways under special interest category and elected members from Divisional Railway Users Consultative Committee (DRUCC) of six Divisions of Southern Railway participated in the meeting. Principal Heads of Departments of Southern Railway participated in the meeting.

After commencement of the meeting, a power-point presentation was made highlighting the significant achievements of Southern Railway during the year.

Further, the election for National Railway Users Consultative Council (NRUCC) was conducted through secret ballot in which M Palaniappan was elected to represent the Zone at NRUCC.

Following the conduct of the election, deliberations were made on key matters pertaining to Railways such as infrastructural projects, passenger amenities, train services, safety and security. Members appreciated the good work being done by Southern Railway, especially during COVID pandemic time, and further raised various rail-related issues in their region and sought the intervention of Railways. Valuable suggestions were also offered on development of rail infrastructure, improvement ofpassenger amenities, introduction/extension of train services and other facilities provided for traveling public.

General Manager & Chairman of ZRUCC stated that Southern Railway as passenger-friendly zone is taking effective measures in increasing the efficiency of operations as well as providing better services to its passengers.  The GM assured the members that, upon scrutiny, suitable/feasible action shall be taken o¬n the issues raised during the meeting.

GR Vivek Sharma, Deputy General Manager, Southern Railway proposed the vote of thanks.
