For North Gujarat’s garba faithful, this Navratri promises a celebration where gaiety meets piety, tradition meets technology and festivity comes with a strong emphasis on safety. The much-awaited Tatsat Garba formally unveiled its pre-launch event ‘Aarambh’ at Eleven Greens Resort here on Sunday, announcing plans for what the organisers describe as a grand, secure and memorable nine-day Garba festival in Mehsana.
The initiative is aimed at giving Garba enthusiasts from Mehsana, Visnagar, Patan, Unjha and surrounding towns a large-scale celebration closer to home, eliminating the need to travel to Ahmedabad or other metropolitan centres for a premium Garba experience.
At the pre-launch, Tatsat Garba organiser Dhaval Patel said the event was being conceived not merely as another commercial celebration, but as an attempt to bring the grandeur of Gujarat’s most cherished cultural festival to the heart of North Gujarat.
“In order to cater to the culture vultures of North Gujarat, we are holding this year’s Garba in Mehsana. It will help the Garba lovers from Visnagar, Patan, Unjha and other surrounding towns to enjoy this divine event without the need to visit Ahmedabad,” Patel said.
He said traditional attire would be compulsory for Garba players, reinforcing the cultural character of the celebration, while there would be no such dress restriction for members of the audience.
“Authentic Satvik food prepared in a hygienic manner will be available all nine days to meet the needs of those observing fast,” he added.
Patel said the event would seek to combine the infectious energy of Garba with the devotional spirit that lies at its core.
“Mehsana has always been a city of culture and celebration. With the development of infrastructure and connectivity in Gujarat, we now have the capacity to host a mega-scale Garba event in our own city. Garba enthusiasts here will now get a world-class and memorable experience close to their homes,” he said.
Safety takes centre stage
Safety, particularly the security of women and families, will be a major focus of the nine-day celebration, Patel said, adding that the organisers were making arrangements to ensure that visitors could enjoy the festivities without apprehension.
“Adequate parking facility for two- and four-wheelers, along with bouncers of both genders, will ensure the safety of all. As a precautionary measure, a medical team with an ambulance will be available to meet any medical emergency,” he said.
The organisers, he added, were also complying with regulatory requirements.
“We are complying with all regulatory measures, including police and fire brigade permissions. Insurance cover for all guests will also be offered in association with a prominent insurance agency,” Patel said.
Entry to the event will be strictly through tickets, with both online and offline booking facilities planned. “The tickets are priced below ₹1,000 only,” he said.
Patel also referred to the changing security environment in Gujarat, saying women and families should be able to participate in late-night festivities with confidence.
“The development vision of Narendra Modi and the security model of Gujarat have created an atmosphere where our daughters can play Garba till late at night without fear. At Tatsat Garba, elaborate arrangements will ensure that families and women can enjoy Navratri in a completely safe, vibrant and tension-free atmosphere,” he said.
Dhol after midnight — a conscious celebration
In a significant move aimed at balancing celebration with civic responsibility, the organisers said they would adopt a dhol-only format after midnight.
“Our speciality is that we will use only dhol after midnight to ensure a noise-pollution-free atmosphere,” Patel said.
The organisers are yet to finalise the chief guest who will inaugurate the nine-day celebration. However, a star performer is expected to be invited for one of the nights, adding a celebrity touch to the festivities.
“We have not taken any decision on the chief guest who will inaugurate the nine-day celebration. However, we will invite one of the star performers for a day,” Patel said.
Aarambh marks the beginning of a bigger vision
The pre-launch Aarambh is being positioned as only the first glimpse of what the organisers hope will become a permanent fixture on Mehsana’s cultural calendar.
Details of the traditional live orchestra, celebrity appearances, large ground capacity and other special attractions are expected to be announced subsequently.
“We are planning to make it a permanent feature in Mahesana after getting the best response from Garba enthusiasts,” Patel said.
With devotion at its heart and celebration in its rhythm, Tatsat Garba is seeking to create a distinctive Navratri identity for Mehsana — one where the clatter of dandiya, the beat of the dhol and the spirit of Maa Amba can come together without compromising on safety, tradition or civic responsibility.
