AHMEDABAD, MAR 28

In a significant operational realignment, Air India has announced the complete shift of its domestic flight services at Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport from Terminal 1 to Terminal 2, effective March 29.

The transition will cover around 210 weekly domestic flights, bringing all arrivals and departures of the airline—both domestic and international—under a single terminal.

“Terminal 2 offers a significantly upgraded passenger experience with modern facilities designed to enhance convenience and comfort,” said an Air India spokesperson.
“We are proactively informing all passengers about the terminal change to ensure a smooth transition,” the spokesperson added.

Sprawled across 49,000 sq. m, Terminal 2 is equipped with 52 check-in counters, self-baggage drop kiosks, ‘DigiYatra’ facilities, fast-track immigration e-gates, and an expansive mix of retail and dining outlets—positioning it as a next-generation aviation hub.

Passengers are being alerted about the change via SMS, email, and other direct communication channels.
“Travellers are advised to confirm their terminal information before arriving at the airport to avoid last-minute inconvenience,” an official cautioned.

The move also reflects a broader capacity enhancement strategy at the airport. Initially designed for international operations, Terminal 2 has gradually evolved into an integrated terminal, accommodating select domestic services alongside global traffic.

Currently, Terminal 2 handles 50–55 daily flights, dominated by international operations from global carriers such as Emirates, Qatar Airways, Singapore Airlines, and Etihad Airways, which together operate nearly 25–27 flights daily.

With Ahmedabad airport managing close to 300 flights per day, the consolidation is expected to streamline passenger flow and strengthen operational efficiency.

The Air India group, including Air India Express, operates a fleet of over 300 aircraft, connecting 59 domestic and 51 international destinations across five continents.
