CHENNAI, MAR 27
In a bold, high-stakes political gambit, Vijay’s Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) has decided to go it alone in the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, finalising candidates for all 234 constituencies—a move that positions the fledgling outfit as a serious disruptor against both the ruling Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) and the formidable All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam–Bharatiya Janata Party alliance.

The party is set to officially unveil its full list on March 29, with internal fine-tuning on constituency allocations delaying the announcement by a couple of days.
Women-Centric Push Redefines Political Messaging
In a significant departure from conventional ticket distribution, TVK is expected to field over 30 women candidates, signalling a calibrated push towards gender representation and inclusive politics.
The move gains added resonance amid a recent controversy, with Vijay coming down strongly on derogatory remarks against women supporters. In a sharply worded response, he said, “A person acting as a supporter of the DMK has, in a most degrading and unspeakable manner, hurled insults at my mothers, sisters, and daughters who are worthy of the pride and respect of this land.”
He added, “On behalf of the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam, I strongly condemn such opportunistic elements who operate under the patronage and protection of the DMK leadership.”
Vijay further asserted that such remarks were not just political attacks but “an affront to the dignity of women,” vowing that the electorate would deliver a fitting response.
Perambur: The Political Theatre of Vijay’s Entry
All eyes are on Perambur, where Vijay is almost certain to make his electoral debut. A politically layered constituency anchored by the Integral Coach Factory ecosystem and a diverse social base, Perambur is seen as a strategic launchpad.
Vijay is expected to kick off his campaign from MKB Nagar, covering key assembly segments including Kolathur, Villivakkam, Anna Nagar, and Virugambakkam—underscoring a tightly choreographed, high-visibility outreach plan.
Backing the choice, party general secretary Adhava Arjun said, “Therefore, our leader should contest here, which is an important part of North Chennai,” adding that the party had already connected with over 40,000 people in the constituency in a short span—“unprecedented in any other constituency.”
Permissions, Planning & Precision Campaigning
TVK has sought necessary clearances from the Election Commission and police authorities, with approvals granted for select campaign zones. Logistical groundwork—including a temporary residence for Vijay in Kodungaiyur—reflects the party’s micro-level planning to ensure seamless voter engagement.
Third Force Rising in a Polarised Contest
With barely weeks to polling, multiple surveys indicate a tightening race. While the DMK and AIADMK-led alliance remain front-runners, TVK is increasingly being seen as a decisive third force, particularly in urban clusters like Chennai.
Projections suggest TVK could secure a modest but impactful seat share, while vote-share estimates in some surveys place the party in close contention with established players—hinting at a possible spoiler or kingmaker role in a fractured mandate scenario.
Big Picture: From Screen Icon to Political Disruptor
Vijay’s decision to contest all 234 seats marks a transition from symbolic entry to full-fledged political assertion. By blending grassroots outreach, women-centric positioning, and sharp narrative-building, TVK is attempting to redraw Tamil Nadu’s political contours.
In a battlefield dominated by Dravidian heavyweights and entrenched alliances, TVK’s solo surge adds a volatile new dimension—where perception, youth connect, and urban swing could prove as निर्णायक as traditional vote banks.
