Addressing officers of the 81st Staff Course at the Defence Services Staff College during his March 22–24 visit, including participants from friendly foreign nations, he underscored that the era of isolated operations is over.

  • High-voltage address at Defence Services Staff College spotlights future of warfare
  • Tri-services synergy projected as India’s decisive edge in multi-domain conflicts
  • Transformational reforms aim to build a leaner, integrated and combat-ready force
  • Military education emerges as the crucible for agile, decisive leadership

Air Marshal Ashutosh Dixit said: “The character of warfare is undergoing a profound transformation. To stay ahead, we must think joint, plan joint and operate joint. Synergy among the services is no longer an option—it is an operational necessity.”

Rewriting the Rules of Warfare

With conflicts increasingly spanning cyber, space and conventional domains, Air Marshal Dixit highlighted the urgency of evolving beyond legacy doctrines.

Air Marshal Ashutosh Dixit: “Future leaders must be agile in thought and decisive in action. Understanding the changing dynamics of warfare is critical to safeguarding national interests.”

He emphasised that hybrid threats and technology-led disruptions demand leaders who can integrate intelligence, speed and coordination seamlessly.

Reforms for a Ready Force

Pointing to ongoing structural and strategic reforms, the CISC outlined a roadmap for a more cohesive and responsive military architecture.

Air Marshal Ashutosh Dixit: “The reforms we are undertaking are designed to build a more integrated, responsive and future-ready force capable of addressing multi-domain challenges.”

The focus, he noted, is on breaking silos and strengthening interoperability across the Army, Navy and Air Force.

DSSC: The Leadership Forge

Commending the institution’s role, he described professional military education as a force multiplier in itself—shaping minds that will command tomorrow’s battles.

Air Marshal Ashutosh Dixit added: “Institutions like DSSC play a pivotal role in shaping leaders who can make informed decisions under pressure and lead with clarity in uncertain times.”

The Commandant’s briefing on training methodologies—centred on jointmanship and inter-services awareness—earned appreciation, reinforcing DSSC’s standing as a premier crucible for military leadership.

The Key Takeaway

From Wellington echoed a simple but powerful doctrine: the future belongs to forces that fight as one.
