CHENNAI, SEPT 25
TitanCompany Limited, under its Planet CSR initiative, has achieved another significant milestone in water stewardship with the successful rejuvenation of Gunduperumbedu Lake in Sriperumbudur, Tamil Nadu. Once neglected for over 15 years, the 157-hectare lake has been transformed into a lifeline for communities, agriculture, and biodiversity.

In partnership with the National Agro Foundation, Titan carried out large-scale interventions including:
- Removal of 1.05 lakh cubic metres of silt
- Strengthening of bunds
- Construction of a 435-metre toe wall
- Renovation of two sluice gates, a surplus weir, and a check-weir
- Building of a new RCC passway bridge
These efforts restored the lake’s holding capacity, augmenting it with 26 crore litres of water. The impact is far-reaching:
- 3–5 additional months of farming every year
- Water table raised by nearly 10 feet
- 20% increase in cultivation area (50–100 acres)
- 30–40% rise in farmers’ income
- 3,000 people directly benefitting, 27,000 in surrounding villages, and nearly 1.2 lakh people indirectly through groundwater recharge and flood mitigation.
This is Titan’s second major water initiative in Tamil Nadu in 2025. Earlier this year, the company inaugurated the Masaorambhu Stream Restoration Project in Coimbatore’s Thondamuthur Block. Designed with seven check dams, the project replenishes around 10 crore litres of water and improves groundwater recharge in rural hilly catchments.
Speaking at the handover of the Gunduperumbedu Lake on September 18, Ms. Revathi Kant, Chief Design Officer & Executive Vice President, Titan Company Limited, said:
“At Titan, we believe water rejuvenation is not just about restoring natural resources, but about restoring hope and opportunity. These projects empower villages, secure livelihoods, strengthen resilience, and reaffirm our Planet CSR vision — putting people and the environment at the heart of progress.”
The lake was formally handed over to the Gunduperumbedu Lake Committee, in the presence of government officials including Kanchipuram District Collector Ms. Kalaiselvi Mohan, IAS, and representatives from the Water Resources Department and National Agro Foundation.
With these initiatives, Titan underscores the role of corporate social responsibility (CSR) in addressing India’s pressing water challenges and creating long-term environmental and social impact.
