The Tamil Nadu Government has urged the Union Government to give its nod for tourism project development proposals to the tune of Rs. 563-crore here on Monday.
The second India-China Informal Summit between the Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping was held in October last in the historical coastal town.
In his customary Address at the Tamil Nadu Assembly, Governor Banwarilal Purohit said that “the Prime Minister promised a tourism development package for Mamallapuram and a proposal for Rs. 563.50 crore has been prepared and sent to the Centre for approval. I urge the Centre to accord speedy approval’’.
Referring to the recent Good Governance Index which ranked Tamil Nadu first among 18 Big States, the Governor lauded the leadership of Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami. The Governor also said that the rural local body polls in the remaining nine districts and for the urban local bodies would be held shortly.
Govt seeks special financial package to revive sugar sector
Contending that the sugar industry was facing a crisis, which was adversely affecting the livelihood of sugarcane farmers, the Governor said: “As part of the way forward, financial restructuring of the sugar mills is required and I request the Union Government to announce a special financial package to assist the revival of the sugar sector in Tamil Nadu.”
The Governor said that the State government also has proposed several projects to the Centre for consideration under the Green Climate Fund and National Adaptation Fund on Climate Change at a cost of Rs. 4,682 crore and urged to accord speedy approval for the projects.
Tamil Nadu to implement ‘One Nation One Ration Card’ scheme
Indicating Tamil Nadu’s willingness to implement the ‘One Nation One Ration Card’ scheme, Governor Banwarilal Purohit on Monday said the State was fully equipped to implement the scheme.
The state with its fully computerised, Aadhaar-enabled PDS operations is able to operationalise the ‘One Nation One Ration Card’ scheme.” The Universal Public Distribution System (UPDS) of Tamil Nadu continued to be the model for other States to emulate, he said.
Though the State had a “normal” monsoon season this year, farmers were still awaiting their harvest.
The Governor also appreciated Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami for announcing Pongal gift hampers and a cash gift of Rs. 1,000 per family, to enable the people of Tamil Nadu to celebrate Pongal festival with gaiety and fervour.
