AHMEDABAD, NOV 11
In a major boost to connectivity and economic growth in Saurashtra, two new passenger trains are set to begin operations from November 14, strengthening the railway network across Porbandar, Devbhoomi Dwarka, Rajkot, and Jamnagar districts. The initiative comes as a result of the continued efforts of Union Minister and Porbandar MP Dr. Mansukhbhai Mandaviya, supported by the Ministry of Railways under Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw.
Following the launch of two flights and two trains in the past three months, the new rail services represent another stride in accelerating Saurashtra’s development and enhancing connectivity for lakhs of passengers.
Out of the two trains approved for the Rajkot–Porbandar–Rajkot (via Jetalsar Junction) route, one train will operate daily, while the second will run five days a week. Both services are designed to improve accessibility, ease passenger movement, and support tourism and trade across the western coastal region.
The inaugural run on November 14 will be flagged off in the presence of Union Minister Dr. Mansukhbhai Mandaviya, State Cabinet Minister Arjunbhai Modhwadia, Union Minister Parshottam Rupala, Rajya Sabha MP Rambhai Mokaria, and several MLAs and local representatives. Dr. Mandaviya will travel aboard the inaugural train from Rajkot to Porbandar, where he is expected to receive a grand welcome at multiple stations along the route.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Mandaviya said the initiative aligns with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of a Viksit Bharat (Developed India) and will play a crucial role in driving balanced regional development.
“Infrastructure and connectivity are key to unlocking economic potential. These new train services will not only make travel easier for residents but also boost trade, commerce, and tourism across Saurashtra — realizing the dream of a developed Rajkot, Porbandar, Dwarka, and Jamnagar,” he said.
By enhancing regional transport infrastructure and improving access to key industrial and tourism hubs, these new rail links mark another transformative step toward Saurashtra’s inclusive and sustainable growth.
