Puducherry government is offering skill training through seven Project Implementation Agencies (PIAs) in the territory in Puducherry and Karaikkal to the rural youth in both the regions.
The training is being offered under the Centrally sponsored Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Grameen Kaushalya Yojana (DDUGKY) of the Rural Development Ministry.
Chief Minister V Narayanasamy told reporters here recentl that after a formal MoU (memorandum of understanding) was inked between the District Rural Development Agency of Puducherry government and one of the PIAs, the Centre earmarked Rs 29.28 crore for implementing the training programme.
He said while totally 4,060 youths would be trained in the two regions in the first phase around 3,200 youths would be trained under different trades.
Secretary to the government and Project Director of DRDA A S P S Ravi Prakash, who was present, said seven organisations had been selected to offer training to the youth.
Those who had dropped out from schools, colleges and technical institutions would be covered under the skill development programme.
The training period would range between three and six months according to the trade in which the training is given, the chief minister added.
