Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendrabhai Patel on Thursday called on Governor of Japan’s Hyogo Prefecture, Motohiko Saito, and later visited the Kobe port in the region during his ongoing tour of the Asian country.
A high-level delegation led by Patel is on a Japan visit since Sunday (November 26) to promote the 10th edition of the Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit, to be held in January at Mahatma Mandir Convention Centre in Gandhinagar.
During the meeting with Governor Saito, Patel recalled Prime Minister Narendra Modi had visited Hyogo in 2007 and again in 2012 when he was the Gujarat CM, said an official release in Gandhinagar.
The CM told Saito it was during those visits that Modi envisaged connecting Ahmedabad and Mumbai with a bullet train, said the release, adding that dream is now becoming a reality, referring to the ongoing construction of the high-speed rail corridor between the two cities.
Patel said Gujarat’s commercial hub Ahmedabad and Kobe of Hyogo are connected through a “sister city bond”, the release said.
The CM expressed happiness that nearly 30 Hyogo-headquartered Japanese firms have invested in Gujarat, it stated.
Patel invited Saito and his delegation to visit the January 10 to 12 investor summit in Gandhinagar.
Later in the day, the Gujarat CM and his delegation held a meeting with key officials of Nichicon Corporation, a leading Japanese business house, said the release.
During the meeting, the CM urged company representatives to take advantage of India’s emerging electric vehicle (EV) market. Patel also invited Nichicon executives to attend the upcoming summit, it said.

Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel conducted a roadshow in Tokyo on the fourth day of his visit to Japan, engaging with prominent industrialists and business professionals.
Under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, a high-level delegation from Gujarat is currently on a week-long tour of Japan and Singapore. The primary objective of this tour is to promote the active involvement and participation of Japanese industrialists and investors in the 10th edition of the Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit. The summit, initiated in 2003 with inspiration from Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, continues to foster international collaboration and economic engagement.
During this roadshow, Chief Minister Shri Bhupendra Patel, presented Gujarat’s inclusive development narrative and its role as a model state for India’s progress to more than 200 leading industrialists and business professionals from Japan.
He expressed that Japan is renowned worldwide for its modern technology and ancient culture. Collaboration from industrialists is crucial in establishing this reputation. India and Japan share principles of humanity and modernity. Gujarat, having earned the distinction of being a development role model and policy-driven state, has not only garnered pride but has also elevated the standards.
Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel emphasized that the fusion of Gujarat’s entrepreneurial spirit with Japan’s rich experience and capability, coupled with the harmonization of Gujarat’s youthful talent with Japan’s cutting-edge technology, will elevate the relationships between Japan, India, and Gujarat to unprecedented heights under the visionary guidance of the Prime Minister.
Shri Bhupendra Patel highlighted that led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, India has presented a roadmap for a greener and sustainable future in response to the global challenge of climate change, as demonstrated during the successful G20 presidency. The Chief Minister expressed his unwavering commitment to position Gujarat as a leader in green growth, aligning with the Prime Minister’s ambitious target of achieving a carbon-free net-zero economy by 2070.
Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel said that initiatives taken under the visionary leadership of the Prime Minister, India is progressing on the path of becoming Atmanirbhar and has become the fifth-largest economy in the world.
With prospect towards making India Atmanirbhar, Viksit Bharat through Atmanirbhar Gujarat, the CM elaborated on Gujarat’s focus for futuristic development in sectors like semiconductors, green hydrogen, e-mobility, renewable energy, and global financial activities.
He stated that Gujarat is well equipped to take the leadership in this new emerging field through the upcoming Vibrant Summit with the theme of ‘Gateway to the Future’.
Executive Vice President of Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO) Kazuya Nakajo, and the Director General of JETRO, Takehiko Furukawa appreciated the significant development achieved by Gujarat and the stature Gujarat has achieved in India. They praised the visionary guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and highlighted the integral role of Gujarat in the global business ecosystem. Furukawa credited the double-engine government as the prime reason for the development of Gujarat.
Executive Vice President of Suzuki, Kenichi Ayukawa, while briefing about the success of working in Gujarat, appreciated the proactive nature of the Prime Minister and Chief Minister of Gujarat and shared his positive experience of Gujarat. Ayukawa hoped that in the near future, fruitful mutual discussions would strengthen the partnership between Gujarat and Japan.

India’s Ambassador to Japan Sibi George spoke about the strong cultural, social, and economic ties between India and Japan, and how the ties between Japan and Gujarat in particular led to strong cooperation between the two regions. He said that continuous efforts are being made to increase the presence of Japanese companies in India.
Chief Secretary of the Government of Gujarat Raj Kumar, spoke about the important role of Gujarat in the dynamic and resilient economy of India.
Mentioning the Mumbai-Ahmedabad High-Speed Rail and the Delhi-Mumbai Industrial Corridor, he highlighted various examples of India-Japan cooperation.
He informed that Gujarat is a place that provides numerous direct and indirect benefits in terms of ease of doing business, high quality of life, and a diverse and vibrant culture.
In this roadshow, the leading industrialists-investors of Tokyo displayed their eagerness for investments after learning the development story of the double-engine government of Gujarat.
