Reaffirming the Centre’s commitment to ensuring that welfare reaches the grassroots, Union Minister of State for Social Justice and Empowerment Ramdas Athawale stressed that government schemes must directly benefit every eligible citizen. During a comprehensive review meeting in Palanpur, the Minister assessed the implementation and progress of key social welfare initiatives in Banaskantha district aimed at empowering students, women and socially disadvantaged communities.
Athawale, who was on a one-day visit to Gujarat, chaired a review meeting with officials of the Social Justice and Empowerment Department in Palanpur to evaluate the implementation of various welfare and empowerment schemes being executed across Banaskantha district.
During the meeting, the Minister was briefed on several flagship programmes, including financial assistance for coaching students preparing for competitive examinations such as JEE, NEET and GUJCET, Kunverbai Nu Mameru Yojana, Dr Ambedkar Awas Yojana, Dr Savitaben Ambedkar Inter-Caste Marriage Assistance Scheme, scholarships for students pursuing higher education after SSC and Classes XI/XII, and scholarship schemes for children of parents engaged in sanitation-related occupations.
Emphasising effective implementation, Athawale said, “Government welfare schemes should reach every ordinary citizen.”
The meeting also reviewed the district’s progress in implementing these schemes and explored ways to enhance outreach and ensure that benefits reach eligible beneficiaries in a timely and transparent manner.
The review meeting was attended by the Deputy Director of the Banaskantha Social Justice and Empowerment Department along with other senior departmental officials, who presented detailed updates on the status and impact of the various welfare programmes.
