AHMEDABAD, JUNE 8
In a remarkable demonstration of how collective action can inspire lasting social transformation, more than 10,000 people across Gujarat and Rajasthan came together to pedal for fitness, sustainability and community well-being under the nationwide “Fit India Sundays on Cycle” initiative, proving that the wheels of change begin with a single ride.

Led nationally from New Delhi by Union Minister for Youth Affairs & Sports and Labour & Employment Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya, the campaign, organised under the Fit India Movement in collaboration with the Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) and the Cycling Federation of India (CFI), continues to evolve into one of India’s most vibrant grassroots fitness movements.
Across the two states, the Sports Authority of India (SAI) Regional Centre, Gandhinagar, successfully transformed Sunday mornings into festivals of health and harmony as families, students, youth, athletes, coaches, cycling enthusiasts and local residents came together to celebrate active living and shared purpose.
The largest congregation was witnessed in Bikaner, where over 1,500 participants joined the cycling celebration led by Union Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal, while Jaipur recorded participation from more than 800 cyclists in the presence of Minister Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore.
Ahmedabad and Vadodara each witnessed enthusiastic participation from over 500 cyclists, supported by mayors, sportspersons and civic leaders, while Gandhinagar, Alwar and Jodhpur showcased equally inspiring community engagement, reflecting cycling’s growing appeal across generations.
Addressing participants in Bikaner, Union Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal said: “Cycling is a simple yet powerful way to stay healthy and active. Initiatives like Fit India Sundays on Cycle inspire people from all walks of life to adopt fitness as a daily habit while also promoting an environmentally sustainable mode of transport.”
In Jaipur, Minister Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore highlighted the transformative nature of the initiative, saying: “The Fit India Movement has become a people’s movement, and cycling is one of the best ways to combine fitness, discipline and community participation. It is encouraging to see citizens, especially youth, coming together in such large numbers to embrace an active lifestyle.”

The Mayors of Ahmedabad and Vadodara also applauded the overwhelming public participation, noting that cycling offers a simple yet effective solution for promoting personal health, reducing carbon emissions and strengthening social bonds. They encouraged families and young people to make cycling a regular habit in support of a fitter and healthier India.
One of the defining achievements of the campaign was the extraordinary mobilisation through the Khelo India Centre (KIC) network. All 34 operational Khelo India Centres in Gujarat participated, while nearly 30 centres across Rajasthan joined the movement, collectively mobilising an estimated 4,000 to 5,000 participants and demonstrating the growing strength of India’s grassroots sports ecosystem.
Cycling rallies, awareness drives and community engagement programmes organised by Khelo India Centres, educational institutions, cycling clubs and local stakeholders further amplified the campaign’s reach across multiple districts.
More than a fitness initiative, Fit India Sundays on Cycle is emerging as a people’s movement that encourages healthier lifestyles, cleaner cities and stronger communities, proving that when citizens choose bicycles over barriers, they set the wheels of positive change in motion for generations to come.
