The wind is blowing, the sun is shining—and Gujarat is turning both into industrial power. With 52 GW of installed renewable energy capacity, the highest wind capacity and the second-highest solar capacity in India, the state is increasingly positioning itself not merely as a renewable-energy producer but as a national hub for the manufacturing, technology and investment ecosystem powering India’s clean-energy transition.
That message resonated strongly at the Bharat Renewable Energy Summit & Expo (BRE Summit) 2026 roadshow in Ahmedabad, where policymakers, industry leaders, investors and renewable-energy stakeholders converged to showcase Gujarat’s growing clean-energy capabilities ahead of the flagship global summit in New Delhi.
The Ahmedabad roadshow—the fourth in a nationwide series, following Jaipur, Mumbai and Hyderabad—was hosted by the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) in knowledge partnership with the National Solar Energy Federation of India (NSEFI) and supported by the Gujarat Federation of Solar Industries (GFSI).
BRE Summit 2026 will be held at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi, from November 2 to 5, alongside the 9th Session of the International Solar Alliance Assembly and the 4th International Conference on Green Hydrogen.
‘Where others saw constraints, Gujarat saw possibilities’
Delivering the keynote address, Shripad Yesso Naik, Union Minister of State for Power and New and Renewable Energy, highlighted Gujarat’s ambition to reach 105 GW of renewable energy capacity by 2030.
But, he said, the state’s achievement goes beyond numbers.
“Gujarat has set an ambitious target of 105 GW of renewable energy capacity by 2030, but what is most impressive is not any single number—it is the state’s mindset. Where others saw constraints, Gujarat saw possibilities. Desert landscapes became solar parks, wind became an industrial opportunity, and today the state is leading the next frontiers of green hydrogen, energy storage, offshore wind, and clean energy manufacturing.”
Naik said BRE Summit 2026 would bring together policymakers, states, global investors, developers, technology providers, manufacturers and financial institutions on a common platform.
He invited Gujarat to participate with its projects, technologies, investment opportunities and ambitions, urging the state to play a leading role in shaping the next phase of India’s clean-energy future.
‘WE MUST MOVE FASTER’
Gujarat Energy and Petrochemicals Minister Rushikesh Patel placed the renewable-energy transition in the context of climate responsibility and the generations to come.
“Our renewable energy journey is also deeply connected to our responsibility towards the environment and the generations that will follow us. We are already witnessing the consequences of environmental damage and rising temperatures. We are suffering now, and we must ensure that the next generation does not have to suffer.”
Calling for collective action, Patel added: “The effort to achieve this is in our hands, and it requires the participation of all of you. Our goal is clear, but we must also think about how we can move faster and achieve our ambitions ahead of time.”
His message captured the urgency behind Gujarat’s renewable-energy expansion: ambition alone is not enough; the transition must accelerate.
52 GW and counting
Gujarat currently has a total installed renewable-energy capacity of 52 GW, contributing 17.82% of India’s overall renewable-energy base.
The state ranks first nationally in wind-energy installations and second in solar energy, placing it among India’s most consequential clean-energy markets.
Its renewable-energy footprint includes 15,850.56 MW of wind capacity and 32,302.7 MW of solar capacity.
The transformation is particularly visible on rooftops. Gujarat has crossed 13.45 lakh rooftop solar installations, collectively generating 7,408.10 MW.
The renewable-energy ecosystem is also becoming a significant employment generator, with an estimated 2.37 lakh direct and indirect jobs linked to the sector.
The numbers underline a larger transformation: Gujarat is moving from simply installing renewable-energy capacity to building an ecosystem spanning generation, manufacturing, technology, infrastructure, finance and skilled employment.
Beyond solar and wind
Ashwini Kumar, IAS, Principal Secretary, Energy and Petrochemicals Department, Government of Gujarat, said the state’s ambition is no longer confined to established renewable-energy technologies.
“Gujarat has always sought to be a leader in the renewable energy sector, constantly trying to do something new and do something better. Today, our journey extends beyond solar and wind to green hydrogen, energy storage and other emerging technologies.”
He credited the cooperation received from the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy and said the state was working to strengthen India’s position in the global clean-energy transition.
The message from Gujarat is increasingly clear: renewable energy is being treated not simply as an electricity-generation story but as an industrial and economic opportunity.
From investment platform to clean-energy strategy
Abhay Bakre, Mission Director, National Green Hydrogen Mission, said India’s renewable-energy trajectory had changed dramatically since RE-INVEST 2024.
“When we came together for RE-INVEST 2024, the focus was on attracting investments and building partnerships. In just two years, India has added over 100 GW of renewable energy capacity, making the Bharat Renewable Energy Summit much more than an investment platform.”
He said the summit had evolved into a forum to shape the next two decades of India’s clean-energy journey towards Viksit Bharat through policy, innovation and global collaboration.
“Gujarat’s participation is especially important, as the summit will bring together policymakers, industry, developers, investors and technology leaders from across the world.”
Denmark, the European Union, the UK, Germany and the Netherlands have already confirmed as official partners, providing Gujarat with an opportunity to showcase its policies and investment potential directly to global investors and technology providers.
Ahmedabad roadshow opens the national run-up
The roadshow opened with introductory remarks by K J Shah, Managing Director, Zodiac Energy and National Governing Council Member, NSEFI, followed by context-setting remarks from Dhananjay Kumar, Director, Engie and National Governing Council Member, NSEFI.
Subrahmanyam Pulipaka, CEO, NSEFI, presented an overview of India’s renewable-energy growth and its success story.
The Ahmedabad edition is part of a nationwide outreach campaign aimed at building regional momentum ahead of the November summit. Roadshows have already been held in Jaipur on August 24, Mumbai on August 27 and Hyderabad on August 31, with further editions scheduled in Lucknow, Bengaluru and Kolkata.
Gujarat’s moment on the global green map
BRE Summit 2026, themed “Invest. Innovate. Inspire.”, is designed as a global platform for advancing clean-energy collaboration, investment, policy, technology, manufacturing and innovation.
The summit is expected to bring together participants from 75+ countries, including 20+ state governments and 250+ high-level delegates, with 80+ curated sessions and 500+ speakers.
A mega exhibition featuring 400+ exhibitors, more than 25 knowledge partners, green-hydrogen networking and international solar cooperation will form part of the event.
For Gujarat, however, the national roadshow has already served a more immediate purpose: putting its renewable-energy story before investors and technology leaders at precisely the moment when the global energy transition is shifting from aspiration to scale, manufacturing and execution.
With 52 GW already installed, a 105-GW target by 2030, leadership in wind, a powerful solar base and an expanding ecosystem in green hydrogen, storage and clean-energy manufacturing, Gujarat is seeking to prove that its greatest renewable-energy asset may not be the wind or the sun alone—but its ability to turn both into industry, investment and jobs.
