SURAT, MAY 3
In a resounding boost to investment momentum, the two-day ‘Vibrant Gujarat Regional Conference – South Gujarat’ concluded at Auro University with the signing of 2,792 Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) worth ₹3,53,306 crore.
Addressing the valedictory session, Union Minister J. P. Nadda underlined the transformative potential of the summit, stating that it has laid a strong foundation for South Gujarat’s next phase of economic expansion.
“The foundation laid for the development of South Gujarat through this conference has prepared the region to take a major economic leap in the coming times,” he said.
Highlighting Gujarat’s economic prowess, Nadda noted that the state contributes 8% to India’s GDP, accounts for 17% of manufacturing output, 27% of merchandise exports, and 40% of total cargo handling.
“Gujarat is the nation’s globally connected economic engine,” he said, crediting the leadership of Narendra Modi for transforming the state into a globally competitive investment hub.
Model of Policy-Driven Growth
Reflecting on policy evolution, Nadda pointed to the launch of the Vibrant Gujarat initiative in 2003 as a turning point.
“Previously there was a distance between industrialists and the government. However, in 2003, the then Chief Minister Narendra Modi started ‘Vibrant Gujarat’ and developed a culture of dialogue and cooperation with industrialists, which has today become an exemplary model for other states,” he said.
He added that such initiatives have positioned India as one of the most reliable global investment destinations.
South Gujarat: Sectoral Strength on Display
The minister highlighted the region’s diverse industrial ecosystem—from Surat’s globally renowned diamond and textile industries to the chemical and fertiliser clusters of Bharuch, Dahej, and Ankleshwar.
“By linking the garmenting industry with textiles and tribal areas, new gateways for development are being opened,” he said, calling it a major boost for regional and state growth.
Self-Reliance Through Innovation
Emphasising resilience amid global uncertainties, Nadda praised Gujarat’s ability to convert challenges into opportunities through landmark projects.
“The way Gujarat is moving forward through projects like the Statue of Unity, GIFT City, and High-Speed Rail by turning disasters into opportunities will be fundamental in realising the resolve of a ‘Developed India’,” he said.
He also congratulated the state government for successfully organising the conference, noting that it has infused “new energy” into South Gujarat’s development trajectory.
