Cauvery Calling Movement conducted Mega Training Programs on Tree based agriculture across six locations in Tamil Nadu on Sunday. These seminars were conducted in Kanchipuram, Kallakurichi, Villupuram, Erode, Dindigul, and Tirunelveli witnessing the participation of more than 1,000 farmers.
Due to the on-ground efforts of the Cauvery Calling Movement, there has been a significant surge in interest among Tamil Nadu farmers to switch to tree-based agriculture. Consequently, the training was organised on the back of overwhelming requests to conduct such sessions in the region.
The trainings were conducted in the plantations of the pioneer farmers enabling a hands-on experience about the various aspects of the agricultural model. Experts from adjoining regions also joined in to share their knowledge and technical details in ensuring profitability in tree-based agriculture.
In particular, the experts delved into various aspects of the model, including- soil and water quality, selection of suitable trees for the soil, tree planting methods, tree farming models, intercropping, water management, weed management, guarding and maintenance techniques.
To facilitate seamless switch to tree-based agriculture, in addition to conducting seminars and training courses, Cauvery Calling has taken upon the responsibility of offering timber saplings to farmers at a very low-cost. This year, the movement has embarked upon an ambitious goal of planting 1.1 crore saplings in agricultural lands this year. To that end, more than 50 Isha Nurseries in different locations across Tamil Nadu are providing 19 different varieties of timber saplings at a subsidized rate of Rs 3 per sapling.
