‘Chennai Runs’ Marathon 2023 organised as part of the CSR initiative of the six decade old philanthropic organization, MDRT 1, received an overwhelming response from the public from all walks of life in the early hours of Sunday.
Over 10 K registered and turned for the marathon organized under 3 km, 5 km, 10 km, and a Half Marathon (21 km), catered to participants of various fitness levels.
The marathon was flagged off by sociopreneur and actor Raghava Lawrence from the Olcott School, Besant Nagar along with the MDRT 1 Chairman Chirag Gupta.

After flagging off the marathon, Raghava Lawrence said, “It’s truly heartening to see thousands of individuals come together for a cause as noble as this. The energy, enthusiasm, and the group spirit at the ‘Chennai Runs’ marathon is awe-inspiring. I am grateful to be part of an event that not only promotes fitness but also supports the future of underprivileged children in need.’’
Addressing the reporters Chirag Gupta said, MRT1’s ‘Chennai Runs’ marathon was a powerful initiative conducted with an intent to make a difference – to raise funds for the Sri Arunodayam Charitable Trust, contributing to the well-being and future of underprivileged children with disabilities. And, it proved to be a resounding success with over 10,000 enthusiastic runners flooding the streets and making it a testimony to the celebration of compassion, community, and collective action.’’
He further said that the event surpassed all expectations with an overwhelming participation, exceeding the initial target and creating a highly spirited atmosphere.
Replying to queries, Chirag Gupta said that the funds raised would be utilized for building a holistic residential school for over 300 underprivileged children in association with the Arunodayam Charitable Trust at Tiruvallore near Chennai. The total project cost is estimated to be around Rs 1.5 crore, he added.

He further stated that “Today marks a significant milestone for ‘Chennai Runs’ and MRT1. Witnessing the community unites for the noble cause, surpassing our participation goals, and contributing to the Sri Arunodayam Charitable Trust have been a deeply rewarding experience. This success is a testament to the power of the community coming together on the grounds of compassion.”
