AHMEDABAD, NOV 12
In a major citizen-centric reform, the Department of Posts has launched a biometric-based Digital Life Certificate (DLC) service that allows pensioners to complete their annual life certificate verification right from their doorstep — through their local Postman or Gramin Dak Sevak (GDS).
Announcing this, Postmaster General Krishna Kumar Yadav, North Gujarat Region, said the initiative enables pensioners to avoid long trips to treasuries, banks, or offices for submitting their certificates. “With India Post Payments Bank, we are providing the facility of generating Digital Life Certificates for Central and State Government pensioners at their doorstep. This initiative pays special attention to very senior citizens and differently-abled pensioners and strengthens the vision of Digital India by taking government services to citizens’ homes,” he said.
Convenience Meets Technology
For doorstep DLC service, pensioners can contact their area postman and provide basic details such as Aadhaar number, mobile number, email ID, PPO number, and bank or post office savings account number. A nominal fee of ₹70 will be charged for the service.
Once the biometric verification is complete, the life certificate is instantly uploaded to the concerned department’s portal, ensuring uninterrupted pension payments. Pensioners receive an SMS confirmation and can also view their certificate at https://jeevanpramaan.gov.in/ppouser/login after one day.
“This initiative promotes the use of facial and fingerprint biometric authentication technologies, providing convenience even to those living in remote villages,” Yadav added.
Aligned with the PM’s Vision
The move aligns with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s call in Mann Ki Baat (November 2024) and Constitution Day address, where he praised digital tools like the DLC for simplifying pension processes nationwide.
The Department of Pension and Pensioners’ Welfare (DoPPW) under the Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions is also running Digital Life Certificate Campaign 4.0 from 1–30 November 2025, aiming to reach over two crore pensioners across more than 2,000 cities and towns.
Postal Transformation in Action
Highlighting the broader transformation, Yadav said, “India Post is no longer limited to delivering letters — it is now delivering digital services to citizens. Through continuous innovation, the Department of Posts is making people’s lives easier by blending trust with technology.”
In addition to generating the DLC, postmen are also empowered to help pensioners withdraw pension amounts through the Aadhaar Enabled Payment System (AEPS) at their doorstep, offering added convenience and security.
This initiative not only empowers the elderly but also marks a significant step in turning the world’s largest postal network into a digital delivery force for inclusive governance.
