The newly sanctioned units are distributed across Goa, Gujarat, Jammu & Kashmir, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh, and Andhra Pradesh, signalling the government’s focus on balanced regional development and high-skill job creation beyond traditional metro manufacturing clusters.
The second tranche covers key component categories crucial for India’s move from assembly-led to design-led manufacturing, including:
- India’s first Optical Transceiver (SFP) units by Jabil Circuit India and Zetchem Supply Chain Services
- High-precision oscillators for telecom, computing and industrial electronics by Rakon India
- Laptop and smartwatch enclosures by Aequs Consumer Products
- Camera modules by ASUX Safety Components, Uno Minda and Syrma Mobility
- Electronic connectors by TE Connectivity
- Multi-Layer PCBs by nine approved companies including Hi-Q Electronics, Secure Circuits, Meena Electrotech and AT&S India
These components will power critical sectors such as smartphones, IT hardware, wearables, telecom, EVs, industrial electronics, defence, medical electronics, and renewable energy.
“ECMS will drive India’s rise to a $500-bn electronics powerhouse” — Vaishnaw
Minister for Electronics and IT Shri Ashwini Vaishnaw said the scheme is catalysing the next phase of value-chain integration, transitioning India from a device-assembly destination to a globally competitive manufacturing base for sub-assemblies and components.
“ECMS is unlocking the next stage of electronics integration—from devices to components—ensuring India reaches $500 billion in electronics manufacturing by 2030–31,” he stated.
Industry leaders praised the Ministry’s transparent, responsive and fast-track approval mechanism, noting that MeitY’s proactive engagement has increased investor confidence and accelerated project execution timelines.
India Unveils ARKA-GKT1: A Leap in Indigenous Silicon Innovation
The government also unveiled ARKA-GKT1, India’s first-generation energy-efficient Edge silicon chip (SoC), developed jointly by Cyient Semiconductors and Azimuth AI.
With up to 10x performance improvement and a design that integrates advanced compute cores, accelerators and secure sensing on a single platform, the chip is tailored for:
- Smart utilities
- Smart cities
- Battery systems
- Industrial IoT applications
The launch marks a significant step in building a product-driven, deep-tech semiconductor ecosystem in India.
“India is ready to compete globally” — Minister of State for Electronics & IT
The Minister of State emphasised that ECMS reflects India’s ambition to build trusted, resilient electronics supply chains, adding:
“ECMS demonstrates India’s readiness to compete with global manufacturing powerhouses and showcases our commitment to building secure, high-quality component ecosystems.”
The announcements were made at the event titled “Electronics Component Manufacturing Scheme — The Foundation for a Globally Competitive Electronics Value Chain”, organised by the India Cellular & Electronics Association (ICEA).
