Commissioned on March 7, 2026 from the prestigious Officers Training Academy Chennai, Lt Pranjal joined the Indian Army Ordnance Corps, becoming the 15th member of her extended family to serve in the Armed Forces and the 13th to join the Army.
- A powerful military legacy continues as the 15th member of the Nangare family dons the Olive Greens
- Commissioned from Officers Training Academy Chennai, she becomes the family’s first woman officer
- Inspired by generations of service, the young officer chose the Army over a promising media career
- Defence leaders say stories like hers can ignite a new wave of youth joining the Indian Army
In a historic first for the Nangare family, she is also the first woman officer to wear the uniform, marking a proud new chapter in a lineage defined by duty, courage and sacrifice.
A Childhood Shaped by the Olive Greens
Lt Pranjal is the daughter of Parag Nangare, a Major General currently posted at the Indian Army Southern Command headquarters.
Growing up in a household steeped in military tradition, she was surrounded by stories of bravery, camaraderie and service to the nation.
Over time, those stories transformed inspiration into a calling.
“Wearing the uniform was not just a dream; it was a responsibility I felt growing up in a family where service to the nation is a way of life,” Lt Pranjal said.
Choosing the Call of Duty
Interestingly, Lt Pranjal had begun building a promising career in the media industry, but the pull of the uniform proved stronger.
Guided by conviction and a deep sense of national duty, she chose to follow the path carved by generations before her.
“Every generation in our family has believed that serving the nation is the greatest honour. I wanted to continue that tradition and contribute in my own way,” she said.
A Legacy that Inspires Youth
Defence officers believe such inspiring stories have the power to encourage more young Indians to consider careers in the Armed Forces.
A senior officer at OTA said the example of Lt Pranjal reflects the enduring spirit of India’s military families.
“The Armed Forces are not just a profession; they represent a commitment to the nation. Stories like Lt Pranjal’s inspire young Indians to look beyond conventional careers and consider the honour of serving the country.”
Her commissioning symbolises not only the fulfilment of a personal dream but also the strength of a military legacy that continues to inspire new generations.
For many young Indians watching her journey, the message is clear — service to the nation remains one of the most meaningful callings of all.
