GANDHINAGAR, MAY 2
In a landmark citizen-centric reform aimed at easing the lives of senior citizens, the Government of Gujarat has partnered with India Post Payments Bank to provide free doorstep generation of Digital Life Certificates (Jeevan Pramaan) for pensioners across the state.
The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed in the presence of Postmaster General, North Gujarat Region, Ahmedabad Krishna Kumar Yadav and Finance Secretary Sandeep Kumar, marking a major push towards digital pension service delivery.
The agreement was formally signed by Ranveer Singh and Amit Meena, with senior officials including IPPB Chief Manager Abhijeet Jibhkate and Senior Manager Santosh Kumar also present.
A Lifeline of Convenience for Pensioners
Under this initiative, pensioners will no longer need to visit banks, treasuries, or government offices for life certificate verification. Instead, Postmen and Gramin Dak Sevaks will generate Digital Life Certificates at their doorstep free of cost between May 1 and July 31, 2026.
“Digital Life Certificates will be generated free of cost in Gujarat through Postman at doorstep from 01 May to 31 July 2026,” said Postmaster General Krishna Kumar Yadav.
He added that the initiative uses advanced technologies such as face authentication and biometric verification, enabling certificates to be generated within minutes and automatically sent to pension offices.
“The objective is to promote the use of digital technologies such as face authentication and fingerprint biometric authentication, thereby ensuring convenient service delivery to all pensioners, particularly those residing in remote areas,” he said.
Seamless Digital Pension Ecosystem
Officials noted that more than 5 lakh pensioners across Gujarat are expected to benefit from the scheme. Last year alone, over 93,000 pensioners used the service, including 62,000 state government retirees who received doorstep assistance.
The system operates through the Jeevan Pramaan platform developed by the National Informatics Centre (NIC), ensuring secure and instant verification.
“Upon successful generation of the Life Certificate, a Pramaan ID will be sent to the pensioner via SMS on his registered mobile number,” said Ranveer Singh.
Pension Beyond Verification
The initiative also extends convenience beyond certification. Pensioners can now withdraw pension amounts at home through Aadhaar Enabled Payment System (AEPS) services delivered by postmen.
Even pensioners residing outside Gujarat can access the service by contacting the nearest post office or postal representative.
Officials said the initiative aligns with the vision of “banking at the doorstep” envisioned during the nationwide rollout of India Post Payments Bank in 2018.
