Ahmedabad’s infrastructure transformation received a major boost on Saturday as Union Railway, Information & Broadcasting, and Electronics & Information Technology Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw reviewed the city’s key development and railway infrastructure projects, directing officials to fast-track five priority works while expressing confidence that the first phase of the Mumbai-Ahmedabad Bullet Train will begin operations in 2027.
During a meeting with public representatives and delegations at Ahmedabad Airport, Vaishnaw conducted an extensive review of ongoing railway and urban infrastructure projects and instructed officials to ensure their early completion to improve connectivity, passenger convenience and urban mobility.
Highlighting the progress of India’s first high-speed rail corridor, Ashwini Vaishnaw said, “The Mumbai-Ahmedabad Bullet Train Project is progressing at a rapid pace and approximately 80 per cent of the project work has been completed. We are confident that the first phase of the Bullet Train service on the Surat-Bilimora section will commence in 2027. Thereafter, the project will be progressively extended to Vapi-Surat, Ahmedabad and ultimately Mumbai.”
Reaffirming the Centre’s infrastructure vision, he said, “The Central Government, under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, is committed to developing world-class railway infrastructure, modern stations, better road connectivity and state-of-the-art transport facilities across Gujarat, including Ahmedabad. These projects will significantly improve passenger convenience, ease urban traffic and provide fresh momentum to the region’s economic and social development.”
Vaishnaw also described the day as a landmark for India’s semiconductor ambitions, stating, “Today is a historic day for India’s semiconductor manufacturing sector. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the country’s third semiconductor plant at Sanand today. Earlier, the Prime Minister had already laid the foundation stones for two semiconductor projects in Sanand on February 28 and March 31.”

The review meeting resulted in decisions to expedite five major infrastructure projects in Ahmedabad:
- Omnagar Underpass (ROB): Officials were directed to complete the remaining work before the forthcoming Navratri festival to provide uninterrupted traffic movement.
- Asarva Station Redevelopment: A comprehensive master plan will transform Asarva into a modern railway terminal through integrated redevelopment of the station, passenger amenities and adjoining railway infrastructure, including the DRM office.
- Second Entry to Ahmedabad Railway Station: A new entry gate and improved road connectivity from the Sarangpur side will be developed to enhance passenger access and facilitate planned urban development.
- Shahpur-Ahmedabad Flyover: The project will move forward after securing statutory approvals related to archaeology and protected monuments, with the Minister confirming discussions with the Union Culture Ministry.
- Sabarmati Station Road Expansion: A joint action plan will be prepared to widen and upgrade the approach road, improving connectivity for commuters and residents.
The meeting was attended by Prerak Shah, Darshak Thaker, Gautam Kathiriya, Umang Nayak, Hitesh Barot, Anju Shah, Kamlesh Patel, Jashu Thakor, Atul Mishra, Sunny Khanchandani, along with other public representatives and party functionaries.
