The tally of coronavirus cases in Gujarat rose to 1,76,608 with 975 fresh cases being reported on Wednesday, the state health department said.
With six fatalities, including three in Ahmedabad, two in Surat, and one in Vadodara, the state’s COVID-19 death toll went up to 3,740, it said.
At the same time, the number of recoveries outnumbered new cases, with 1,022 patients getting discharged in the day, the department said.

The total number of recovered cases in Gujarat increased to 1,60,470 which pushed up the state’s recovery rate to 90.86 percent.
The state is now left with 12,398 active cases.
A total of 51,572 tests were conducted for the virus in the last 24 hours, taking the overall number of samples tested so far to 62,62,122, the department said.
At 214, Surat reported the highest number of new cases in the state in the day, followed by Ahmedabad (174) and Vadodara (111).
Rajkot reported 85 new cases, Gandhinagar 39, Mehsana 32, Banaskantha 30, Jamnagar 27, Patan 25, Junagadh 20, Sabarkantha 19, Morbi and Surendranagar 18 each, Bhavnagar 17, Narmada 15, Anand 13, etc.
In the Union Territory of Daman, Diu and Dadra, and Nagar Haveli, the case tally rose to 3,236 with four new infections, including one each in Daman and Diu and two in Dadra Nagar Haveli, officials said.
With two more patients being discharged in the day, the count of recoveries in the UT rose to 3,202, they said.

Surat district reports 214 cases, 186 recoveries
Surat reported 214 new coronavirus cases on Wednesday, the highest for a district in Gujarat, taking its tally to 36,759, the state health department said.
Two patients succumbed to the infection during the day, raising the district’s COVID-19 fatalities to 1,023, it said.
Also, 186 patients were discharged from the hospital following recovery, the department said.
While the city reported 158 new cases and as many recoveries, the rural areas of the district recorded 56 new infections and 28 discharges, said the department in a release.
The COVID-19 recovery rate in Surat city is 93.4 percent, the Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC) said, adding a total of 25,639 patients have been discharged so far.
The SMC said 346 COVID-19 patients are hospitalised, with 158 of them undergoing treatment at two government hospitals.
The two city-based government hospitals – Civil Hospital and SMIMER Hospital – have a total bed capacity of 3,046. The current bed occupancy rate of the two hospitals is 4 percent and 8.4 percent, respectively, the SMC said.
In rural Surat, Kamrej taluka reported 14 new cases, the highest among nine talukas, raising its COVID-19 tally to 2,030, officials said.
Kamrej has also reported the highest number of 89 deaths so far.
Umarpada taluka has reported the lowest number of 78 COVID-19 cases and one death so far.
174 new cases in Ahmedabad district; 3 die
Ahmedabad district on Wednesday reported 174 fresh COVID-19 cases, taking the cumulative count of infections to 43,208, the Gujarat health department said.
With three more deaths, the number of COVID-19 fatalities in the district increased to 1,926, it said.
Interestingly, 174 patients were discharged in the day after treatment, taking the count of recoveries in the district to 37,983, the department said in a release.
While Ahmedabad city reported 159 new cases and 151 recoveries, 15 new infections were detected in rural areas along with 23 recoveries.

The north-west zone in Ahmedabad now has 477 active cases while the west zone has 467 such cases followed by 445 cases in the south zone.
The central zone has the lowest number of 294 active cases, said the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC).
As per the Ahmedabad Hospitals and Nursing Homes Association, a total of 1,168 beds are occupied out of 2,054 beds made available in the city’s 70 private hospitals for the treatment of COVID-19 patients.
