Gujarat reported 1,070 new coronavirus positive cases on Sunday, taking its infection count to 1,88,310, the state health department said.

As the virus claimed six lives during the day, including three in Ahmedabad and one fatality each in Rajkot, Surat, and Vadodara, the cumulative death toll mounted to 3,803, it said.
The state’s recovery rate improved slightly on Sunday to 91.30 percent as 1,001 patients were discharged during the day, taking the number of recoveries to 1,71,932, the department said in its statement.
As many as 49,842 tests were conducted in the last 24 hours, due to which the number of samples tested till now rose to 68,37,282.
The state now has 12,575 active cases.
At 219, Ahmedabad reported the highest number of cases in the state in the day, followed by Surat with 187 cases, the department said.

Rajkot added 150 new cases, while Vadodara added 140 patients to its tally.
Among other districts, Mehsana reported 59 new cases, Gandhinagar 51, Patan 31, Jamnagar 26, Banaskantha 24, Surendranagar 19, Kheda, and Kutch 18 each, Anand 15, Junagadh 13, Bharuch 12, etc.
In the Union Territory of Daman, Diu and Dadra, and Nagar Haveli, the total number of cases rose to 3,263, while the count of recoveries stood at 3,242, officials said.

Ahmedabad adds 219 fresh cases, 229 recover
Ahmedabad district on Sunday reported 219 new COVID-19 cases, taking the count of infections to 45,343, the Gujarat health department said.
The district has been reporting the highest number of new cases in the state and has overtaken Surat that topped the tally of new infections earlier.
With three deaths, the COVID-19 toll in Ahmedabad district rose to 1,932, it said.
Meanwhile, 229 patients were discharged in the day, exceeding the new cases.
The total number of recoveries in the district now stands at 40,061, the department said in a release.
Among the 219 fresh cases, Ahmedabad city added 202 infections while rural areas reported 17 cases.
Ahmedabad reported 199 recoveries while 30 patients were discharged in rural areas.
With the rise in the number of new cases, the bed occupancy rate in the city’s private hospitals for COVID-19 patients rose to 89.5 percent, with a total of 1,976 beds currently occupied as against the availability of 2,207 beds, said the Ahmedabad Hospitals and Nursing Homes Association in its latest update on Sunday.
A total of 71 private hospitals have been requisitioned for the treatment of COVID-19 cases by the city municipal corporation.
Currently, 95 beds are available in isolation wards at these hospitals while 745 beds are occupied.
In ICUs with ventilators, 20 beds are available and 150 beds occupied, it said, adding that in ICUs without a ventilator, 321 beds are occupied and 41 beds available.
Surat adds 187 new cases, 208 recover
Surat district on Sunday reported187 new coronavirus positive cases, taking its tally to 38,659, Gujarat health department said.
With one death, the toll rose to 1,037, it said.
Recoveries outnumbered new cases, with 208 patients getting discharged during the day.
While the city reported 146 recoveries against144 new cases, 62 people recovered against 43 new cases in rural areas, the department said in its release.
With 27,426 patients getting discharged so far, the recovery rate in the city rose to 94.3 percent, said the Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC).
A total of 14,236 people are currently under quarantine in the city while 315 patients remain admitted in various hospitals for COVID-19 treatment, it said.
In Kamrej tehsil, the number of COVID-19 cases rose to 2,133, the highest among nine tehsils.
